In the role of Substation Senior Designer, we'll count on you to:
Provide oversight over workload, quality, utilization, team morale, and training for a substation team(s).
Perform substation design activities as needed.
May function as an Assistant Project Manager of substation projects of all sizes and complexity, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, and quality control, schedule, and budget management.
Understand basic project management tools and techniques including client goals and objectives, contract types and project risk, work breakdown structures, project scope, schedule, and budget, financial management and controls, including earned value, and project closeout.
Coordinate with company recruiting staff and leadership to help grow the group based on client and worksharing needs.
Establish a network of relationships with technical peers in other offices and leverage those relationships and resources in worksharing opportunities.
Understand and implement the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures.
Work independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more substation Project Engineers and/or junior design staff.
Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong client and substation design management skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Some travel may be required.
- Preference will be given to candidates local to Kansas City.

- Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experience
- A minimum of 10 years related industry experience
- Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
- Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tools
- Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools
- Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts
- Knowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits are essential
- Leadership and mentoring skillsets required
