POSITION:  CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY ELECTRICITY TEACHER

 

LOCATION:  Career and Technology Academy

 

POSITION SUMMARYTo prepare high school students for a career and/or post-secondary education opportunities in the electrical trade. 

 

REPORTS TOSchool Principal

 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  1. Have a valid teacher’s certificate or be eligible under the certification process for Professional and Technical Education Teachers COMAR 13A.12.02.15:
    1. Have a Bachelor’s or higher degree in a state-approved career and technical program; or
    2. Have a Bachelor’s or higher degree in electricity; or
    3. Have an Associate degree in electricity, or a Bachelor’s or higher degree and two (2) years satisfactory occupational experience within the past 10 years; or
    4. Have a high school diploma and three (3) years satisfactory occupational experience within the past 10 years.
  2. Possess or be eligible for Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 30 hour certification.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:  These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions. At the time of application, the candidate must have:

  1. Knowledge of federal, state and local electrical codes and use the National Electrical Code book.
  2. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and controls.
  3. Demonstrated skill in the use of the tools and test equipment of the trade such as: wire cutters and strippers, drills, soldering irons, test lamps, voltmeters, ammeters and ohmmeters.
  4. Ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings, and use formulas basic to the trade to figure such things as voltage and resistance.
  5. Knowledge of the various gages, sizes and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices.
  6. Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  7. Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel and community members.
  8. Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  10. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Provide appropriate instruction, learning experiences, and management of a performance based electrical technical program.
  2. Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  3. Assist in preparing students for entry level jobs and post-secondary education opportunities in the electrical trade.
  4. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance in academic knowledge and skills mastery following required procedures and practices.
  5. Maintain a safe and healthy work learning environment by monitoring appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  6. Work with Career and Technology Education (CTE) staff members to establish and maintain a team approach to interdisciplinary instruction.
  7. Assist in evaluating and validating curriculum with members of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) made up with members of the business community.
  8. Identify materials and equipment needed with PAC to maintain and implement an electrical technical program that reflects current industry standards.
  9. Work with PAC, employers and community groups to promote and advance the electricity program.
  10. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community.
  11. Participate and support Skills USA and other program related activities.
  12. Comes to work promptly every day.
  13. Works extended hours daily and works flexible hours as necessary
  14. Works under stress and meets all deadlines.

 

OTHER DUTIES:  Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.  Performs related work as required or assigned by the Career and Technology Academy Principal.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment. 

 

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers.  All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.

 

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:  Immediate Vacancy

 

EVALUATION:  Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policy on evaluation established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

 

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
