The North Reading Public Schools is seeking a Food Service Associate Permanent Substitute. North Reading Public Schools (NRPS) is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential. 

 

In this role you will be available four (4) days per week to report to a designated school location from approximately 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Locations are as needed needed throughout the five (5) schools within North Reading Public Schools per the direction of the Food Services Director. 

 

Essential duties

  • Assist in providing Food Service preparation and other kitchen related duties, under the direction of School personnel
  • Assist in preparation of hot and cold foods
  • Serve breakfast and/or lunch to students
  • Follow all food safety and storage rules
    Follow all established sanitation procedures
  • Perform daily cleaning including ware washing
  • Cashiering
  • Cooperate with the School staff to provide a positive and inviting dining experience for students and faculty
  • Work closely with the Lead Manager and other staff on a daily basis

Physical demands

Tasks require the ability to exert strenuous effort in work requiring moderate to heavy physical activity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move about and is continuously required to stand. The employee must spend most of their shift on their feet. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. Additionally, the employee will frequently reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Handling of other heavy items of increased weight may be required; although the use of wheeled carts and assistance is encouraged whenever possible. Cleaning the cafeteria sometimes involves folding and unfolding the cafeteria tables. Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination and the ability to distinguish color. The employee must be able to input information into a computer and read material from a computer monitor as well as printed matter with or without visual aids.

 

Requirements

  • One (1) year past experience in school cafeteria and/or food service preferred
  • Reliable and consistent
  • Hardworking and energetic
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions/instructions
  • Works well with colleagues
  • Strong communication skills
  • Can work independently
  • ServSafe certification, preferred
  • High School/Trade School degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
