Fall Creek is creating a world with better blueberries through its friendly, collaborative team spread across the globe. To help us accomplish this, we are seeking a qualified Tissue Culture Technician I - Media Prep. This position will be located in Lowell, OR. 

 

The Fall Creek Tissue Culture Technician I is responsible for performing general TC lab processes for in-vitro plants and related activities to produce high-quality in-vitro plants. This role involves executing more sophisticated tissue culture techniques requiring higher attention to plant/process evaluations and manipulations for the delivery of high-quality in-vitro products. This position has a high level of advanced technical expertise and an-in-depth comprehension of lab processes 

What you'll do at Fall Creek:

  • Prepares or able to prepare plant tissue culture media and stock solutions following provided protocols and SDS (Safety Data Sheets) to ensure consistent high-quality product.
  • Responsible for day-to-day activities of assigned Transfer Room/technicians included but not limited to performance evaluation, plantlet distribution, media ordering, supplies, inventory management and schedule planning.
  • Repetitive tasks including making media recipes, chemical stocks, media filling both by hand and with a semi-automatic system, container dumping, and other assorted container cleaning.
  • Daily activity breakdown: 50% media (mixing and dispensing), 40% cleaning (equipment and containers) 10% paperwork, restocking supplies. 
  • Equipment used daily includes preparators, autoclaves, peristaltic pumps, drying oven and industrial dishwasher.
  • May assist with developing new lab processes or research and optimizing standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for registering data and ensuring accurate records for all lab processes are kept up to date.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance, setting up, adjusts, calibrates, operates, cleans, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment and maintains consumables.
  • Performs or assists with research project management.
  • May assist in managing supply inventory (chemicals, consumables, glassware, etc.).
  • Responsible for providing reports on all activities to the team and management within designated timelines.
  • Performs or assists with training and assists with process supervision of team technicians and/or assigning tasks to achieve daily target goals.

What you bring to Fall Creek:

  • Highschool diploma or GED with 3+ years of related working experience; or advanced training, or courses in biological sciences with 2+ years of a related working experience; or science related degree with 1+ year of a related working experience.
  • Requires 1-3+ years of relevant lab work experience depending on educational qualifications and technical expertise.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex tissue culture or media preparation techniques and/or molecular and cell biology skills.
  • Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to read and follow detailed instructions, directions, and protocols in English.
  • Requires a high attention to detail and the ability to observe small deviations.
  • Requires the ability to be highly organized in handling materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Demonstrate excellent good laboratory practices.
  • Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. 
  • Strong collaborative skills, including the ability to develop positive relationship and maintain a positive attitude while working in a team environment.
  • Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills to present and exchange information.
