Job Summary
The Outpatient Pulmonary Clinical Nurse II, under the supervision of the Clinical Manager and Practice Manager, delivers direct patient care to adult outpatient population in general pulmonary, and multiple sub-specialties including but not limited to Asthma, Advanced COPD, Bronchiectasis/Nontuberculous Mycobacteria, Cystic Fibrosis, Interstitial Lung Diseases, Sarcoidosis, and Neuromuscular Lung Diseases. The nurse is required to work in a fast-paced environment, to be flexible to work at multiple sites, and to cross-cover multiple sub-specialties and other nurses in the division when needed. This nurse will be expected to be highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the pulmonary disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. At this operational level, the nurse proactively embraces the Pulmonary Nursing Society/Standards of Pulmonary Nursing practice to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization.
The Outpatient Pulmonary Clinical Nurse II is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and for daily operations. Daily Tasks are including but not limited to: performing symptomatic phone triages, managing in-basket, complex care coordination, navigating & facilitating prior authorization for complex and specialty medications, walk test titration and assist with clinic emergencies. The Clinical Nurse II utilizes the nursing process for patient care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic clinical care. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient’s physiological and psychosocial developmental level and needs. S/he consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and works well in a collaborative team environment. S/he will assist with management of patient care administered by the UCSF Pulmonary Center physicians and other members of the clinical and nursing team. S/he will consistently project a professional and courteous demeanor and shall comply with the Medical Center Policies and Telephone Standards.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $84.78 - $109.85 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in an outpatient medical specialty setting (within the past 2 years).
- Must have a minimum of 1 year of previous acute care experience.
- Must have experience with EPIC systems.
- Must have experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility is required to orient with various operational needs, and with covering other sub-specialties within Pulmonary.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Training and experience with electronic health record.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California
Preferred Qualifications
- High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills preferred.
- Experience with IV Antibiotic or complex care coordination
- Experience with prior authorization for complex and specialty medications
- Experience with symptomatic telephone triage in a call center environment.
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
