Multilingual Tutor - Temporary bei Elkin City Schools

This position is part-time and temporary for the 2025-2026 school year only.

Job Summary:

The Multilingual Tutor supports the academic and linguistic development of students who are English Learners (ELs) or Multilingual Learners (MLs) in a public school setting. The tutor works closely with teachers, ESL staff, and administrators to provide individualized or small-group instruction, helping students access grade-level content and acquire English language proficiency in accordance with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and WIDA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide academic tutoring and language development support to multilingual students in English and/or their native language when appropriate.

• Assist students in mastering content across core subjects (e.g., math, reading, science, social studies).

• Support students’ development of English language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

• Implement instructional strategies and accommodations based on students’ English Language Proficiency (ELP) levels.

• Collaborate with ESL teachers and classroom teachers to align support with grade-level curriculum and language goals.

• Monitor and document student progress and communicate with teachers and families as needed.

• Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that respects cultural and linguistic diversity.

• Participate in professional development related to English Language Development (ELD), cultural competency, and NC DPI policies.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Ability to work effectively with school-aged children from diverse backgrounds

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education

• Prior experience working in K-12 public schools

• Familiarity with WIDA standards and English Learner support strategies

Work Environment:

• May work in classrooms, ESL resource rooms, or one-on-one settings

• May require travel between schools if serving multiple sites
