As an Advocacy Intern, you’ll support EveryMind’s policy and legislative initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in research, analysis, and government relations. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about mental health policy, local politics, and the legislative process while making a meaningful impact.
About The Internship
Schedule: Flexible, part-time (10–20 hours/week during business hours, M–F)
Location: EveryMind Headquarters, Rockville, MD (with hybrid opportunities)
You’ll work primarily with the Advocacy Department while also collaborating with program staff across the organization.
Key Responsibilities

Research & Analysis: Track and analyze local, state, and federal mental health policies and legislative proposals.

Policy Development: Draft policy proposals, position papers, talking points, and testimony in collaboration with the team.

Outreach & Relationships: Connect with county and state legislators, support advocacy initiatives, and build relationships with policymakers and partners.

Database Management: Assist with maintaining systems to track legislation and communications with external agencies.
Qualifications

Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student studying Public Policy, Political Science, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field.

Strong research, writing, and critical analysis skills.

Interest in mental health policy, advocacy, and legislative processes.

Comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers and community members.

Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with online legislative tracking tools a plus.
