Join the Recreation, Parks and Culture marketing and communications team as a Graphic Design & Digital Media Specialist, where you'll create engaging, on-brand marketing materials across a variety of media. Reporting to the Supervisor, Marketing and Innovation and collaborating with Marketing and Communication Specialists, you'll ensure campaigns reach diverse audiences with the right visual message.

The role also oversees content across several digital media tools to ensure a consistent brand that enhances the department's profile, programs and services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate marketing and communication plans into designs by creating engaging and on-brand marketing materials for a variety of media 
  • Design and produce department promotional, educational and event materials using a targeted approach, while considering diverse population targets
  • Develop visual identity guidelines for major multi-sport events hosted by Strathcona County in collaboration with the events team
  • Incorporate key messages through a variety of mediums including digital signs, web, social media, advertisements, facility displays and promotional materials
  • Provide photography, videography and asset editing 
  • Create promotional materials in a variety of formats (print, web, broadcast, digital media, templates) while using contextual design principles
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate design and print production, while meeting targeted budgets and tight timelines
  • Jointly manage a large design file repository while using consistent structure, naming conventions and backup procedures
  • Regularly research design industry trends and remain informed on Adobe Creative Suite software updates and emerging applications
  • Oversee department webpages and layout to ensure accuracy, readability and ease of navigation
  • Act as a liaison between the department and Corporate Communications to provide input on new website initiatives, projects or tools

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Digital Media or related field, with a minimum of 2 years directly related experience in Graphic Design 
  • High proficiency in computer literacy with demonstrated experience in Adobe Creative Suite (including Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro/Rush, After Effects, Audition, Media Encoder, Animate), digital signage and web content management systems (internal and external), social media and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to understand and analyze marketing plans related to department programs, services and events. Identify effective design/production strategies to best reach the target audience
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative, motivation and creativity
  • Excellent planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects and department requests concurrently, within tight timelines
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Creative ability with knowledge of layout, graphic design and application to web-based materials
  • Strong knowledge of commercial printing industry and standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively at all levels, both internally and externally
  • An after-hours schedule may be occasionally required for promotional campaigns and special events
