Purpose

The Assistant Golf Professional at The Links Course, Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort, plays a key role in delivering exceptional golf operations and service. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the golf shop staff, guest service team, and overall golf experience, while supporting the Head Golf Professional and Executive Director of Golf. The Assistant Professional ensures smooth operations by balancing the four core areas of success: People, Process, Product, and Profit. When senior managers are unavailable, this position assumes Manager-on-Duty responsibilities for Golf Operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Golf Professional and 1st Assistant in managing all golf operations line staff to ensure consistent coverage.
  • Lead and develop staff to enhance the employee experience (People), operational efficiency (Process), guest satisfaction (Product), and financial performance (Profit).
  • Uphold and promote Sandestin’s mission, vision, values, and service culture at all times.
  • Lead by example in practicing the “3 Steps of Service” and the “10/5 Rule” with all team members.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and motivating workplace through daily communication and recognition of staff achievements.
  • Oversee golf shop and guest services staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, performance reviews, and conflict resolution.
  • Train staff in golf operations, tournament execution, merchandising, and proper guest check-in procedures.
  • Manage golf car fleet operations, ensuring proper rotation, upkeep, and Visage GPS functionality.
  • Assist with retail merchandising, including displays, promotions, and inventory management.
  • Provide accurate reports on play records, merchandise sales, expenses, and budgets.
  • Maintain effective communication with all team members regarding course operations and guest service standards.
  • Promote Sandestin’s Vision and Mission while creating a fun and engaging work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects, departmental collaboration, and representing the resort at community or industry events.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma required; College education preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of full-time experience at a PGA-recognized golf facility.
  • Active PGA of America affiliation or enrollment in the PGA PGM 3.0 Associate Program required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven supervisory and leadership ability in a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic accounting, budgeting, and computer proficiency required.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and guest service skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions with limited guidance.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily indoors, with moderate climate control; occasional outdoor work required.
  • Ability to sit at a desk up to 5 hours per day; walking and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 250 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and stretching.
  • Requires manual dexterity for operating golf and office equipment.
  • Continuous talking, hearing, and visual acuity required for guest and staff interaction.
