About the Job:
Under general supervision of the Facilities Manager or designee, this is work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and building management systems associated with commercial and industrial buildings   and associated emergency power generation systems.
The work involves assisting in a variety of skilled tasks maintaining, installing, adjusting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment and systems relating to commercial and industrial buildings. The work may require occasional operation of machinery, but the emphasis is upon servicing, repairing, maintaining, replacing, upgrading, troubleshooting, and the safe work practices of working on and around electrical and mechanical equipment and systems. Employees in this classification may be assigned projects at varied locations and are expected to become familiar with electro/mechanical and building management system maintenance requirements throughout the department.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from a high school or vocational school, possession of a general journey level (ELO1) electrician license, AND three (3) years of related journey level electrical experience in a commercial setting.
SPECIAL LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of a valid driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
  • Possession of a Washington State ELO1 electrician license.  
  • Ability to obtain a QEW-3 qualifying level within the first 90 days of hire through the City of Everett’s Qualified Electrical Worker Safety Program.

EXAMINATION STEPS
  • The Supplemental Questions answers will be blind rated (weighed 30%).
  • A limited number of the top-qualifying applicants will be called for an in person practical and written exam (weighted 70%) tentatively scheduled during week of October 27, 2025.
  • All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process.  
IMPORTANT NOTES
  • A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.  
  • The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. 
  • Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
  • Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a City-paid pre-employment physical and possible drug screen.
  • This job classification is represented by Everett Municipal Employees Local 113, AFSCME.
  • New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
