Position Duties
Key Responsibilities
As a Planner I or Planner II, you will:
- Research, analyze, and interpret planning policies, zoning ordinances, and subdivision regulations.
- Review and evaluate development applications such as site plans, conditional use permits, rezonings, and master development plans.
- Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with approved plans and gather data for planning studies.
- Prepare and present staff reports, findings, and recommendations to the Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and committees.
- Communicate regularly with the public, applicants, consultants, and government officials regarding planning regulations, processes, and project updates.
- Assist with updates to the Comprehensive Plan, zoning ordinances, and subdivision regulations.
- Provide support on special projects and initiatives that shape the future growth and development of Frederick County.
Minimum Qualifications
- Planner I: Entry-level work experience in planning, zoning, or development review or other related fields.
- Planner II: 3+ years of professional planning or closely related experience in the private sector with proven ability to manage more complex development review and long range planning projects.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have held it for at least 2 years.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience drafting reports, reviewing site plans, and presenting before small and large audiences like boards or committee’s members.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, while demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
