About the Department
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Stormwater Technician to join our Public Works Department. This is a crucial role responsible for maintaining and improving Chatham County's stormwater systems. The ideal candidate will be a supervisor and expert in operating specialized equipment like CCTV and Jet-Vac trucks and will have a strong background in heavy equipment operation and roadside maintenance.
Position Duties
- Acts as the supervising operator of the CCTV equipment and primary driver/operator of JetVac equipment.
- Performs inspections of stormwater systems, including storm drainage structures, piping, ditches, ponds, and tide gates.
- Drives trucks to transport crews, material, and equipment.
- Inspects pipes, catch basins, ditches, swales, tide gates, and outfalls to determine the capability of appropriate stormwater conveyance.
- Initiates work orders for items inspected that require further maintenance and repair to include preliminary problem identification, recommendations for solution, and mitigating maintenance of problems found when applicable.
- Performs ground maintenance within rights of way, including removal of leaves, weeds, and/or other vegetative overgrowth and debris from storm drains, drainage, ditches, and catch basins.
- Removes litter and debris from roadway curbs, shoulders, inlets, medians, and sidewalks.
- Clears and collects weeds, underbrush, litter, and accumulated debris from work sites.
- Assists in responding to citizen complaints received regarding stormwater issues on private property, within rights of way or publicly owned areas by way of site visits and inspections.
- Utilizes CPS equipment to perform inspections and maintenance on stormwater systems.
- Sets up and takes down traffic control, including cones, barricades, signage, and other warning devices to ensure the safety of work crews and the public.
- Cleans up the work site upon completion of the job or secures the work site if returning.
- Performs routine maintenance and security for all assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, and
- At least two (2) years of experience in heavy equipment operation and roadside maintenance, and
- At least one (1) year of experience operating CCTV and Jet-Vac trucks; and
- At least one (1) year of experience supervising the work of others; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License at the time of application.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) inspection.
