Position Summary
KKR is looking for a dynamic and visionary Director of Platform Engineering to lead our global transformation and take our technology to the next level. This is a critical leadership role for an executive with a deep technical background and a passion for building platforms that enable speed and scale. You will be at the forefront of our journey, driving an AI-first mindset and building self-healing, mission-critical services that power a global enterprise.
You will be responsible for defining and executing our platform strategy, accelerating our cloud migration, and elevating the developer experience across the firm. This is an opportunity to lead a team of talented engineers and to be a key driver of innovation, security, and operational excellence for our most critical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Platform & DevOps Leadership: Define and execute the strategy for our centralized platform, fostering a DevOps culture that emphasizes automation, speed, and reliability.
- Developer Experience: Elevate the developer experience by providing state-of-the-art tools, centralized services, and an intuitive platform that empowers engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate services with autonomy.
- Cloud Enablement: Lead the charge in accelerating our cloud migration to AWS, Azure, and GCP. Drive the adoption of cloud-native architectures, containerization, and service mesh to build highly scalable and resilient services.
- AI-First Observability: Instill an AI-first mindset in our engineering practices, building a platform that incorporates self-healing services and state-of-the-art enterprise observability to operate with maximum efficiency on a global scale.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of platform engineers. Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with engineering and business leaders to understand their needs, providing technical expertise and a strategic vision for how platform engineering can enable their success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in information technology, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure.
- Deep technical expertise in building centralized, platform-based microservices, containerization (e.g., Kubernetes), and service mesh.
- Proven experience with cloud management and migration strategies across multiple major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Demonstrated experience in elevating developer experience through automation, centralized tooling, and seamless workflows.
- Strong financial acumen and experience in managing technology budgets and vendor relationships.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels.
- A strategic mindset with a commitment to operational excellence and an unwavering focus on innovation.

This is the expected annual base salary range for this Boston-based position. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
