Job Description

To plan and organize custodial services insuring buildingcomplexes are clean and orderly; perform related work.

Examples of Duties

1. Supervision.
Typical duties: interviews and hires staff and evaluates performance;establishes work priorities, organizes work schedules, and determines dutyassignment so there is little adverse impact on daily operations; determinescustodial care plans for work areas; monitors work habits of staff to insurework quality and productivity; implements quality assurance programs to insureduties are being performed and safety practices followed; trains staff onproper care and use of custodial equipment.

2. Custodial services.
Typical duties: schedules and coordinates building cleaning and custodialequipment lubrication and maintenance; orders supplies and replenishes stocksin supply rooms; fills requisitions for cleaning supplies; performs light- andheavy-duty cleaning duties when staff coverage is inadequate; maintains recordsand reports regarding product use and purchasing of supplies and equipment;assists in development of policies and procedures; tests and evaluates newproducts for usefulness.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of:

• Methods, materials, and equipment usedin heavy-duty custodial work.
• Custodial safety practices.
• Cleaning agents andrelated products and their possible reactions.

Good knowledge of:

• Supervisory practices.
• Sanitation and infection control.
• Training methods used in custodial work.

Experience:

• Using small hand tools.
• Operating and maintaining industrial-typecleaning equipment.
• Preparing records and reports.

Specialty Requirements

• These positions at ISU require a valid standard driver's license.
• These positions at ISU require responding to emergency call-backs.
• These positions on the Pocatello campus require the ability to demonstrate successful completion of both a physical exam, including cardiopulmonary function testing and chest x-ray, and a respirator fit test.

Supplemental information

Due to the nature of this work, the successful candidate must have the physical ability to:

• Climb ladders, bend, and stoop.
• Lift and carry items weighingup to approximately 60 pounds.
• Stand and walk continuously throughout theshift.

ISU minimum for this classification is $19.66/hour.
