Clerk Grade: 7/8

Annual Salary Range: $113,574 - $125,720 + superannuation

Employment Type: Temporary (until 30/06/2026 - with the possibility of extension or conversion to ongoing), Full-time

Location: McKell - Haymarket, Sydney | Hybrid

About the team

The Data Science team develops AI, machine learning and advanced analytics solutions to help improve business operations across the NSW public sector.

Your day-to-day

  • You will be working on data science  projects delivering a range of work briefs that meet the high level project goals.
  • You’ll be working with a delivery manager and other members of the Data Science team to deliver in an agile project methodology.
  • You’ll be working on the DAC’s cloud based analytics platform using Python and SQL in Databricks and Snowflake.
  • You’ll be working with OpenAI large language models, graph data base technology and Python based visualisation tools to develop novel visualisation solutions.
  • Your project is part of a broader portfolio of Data Science projects which provides a collegial setting for learning the latest in data science tools and techniques.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Experience and expertise with coding in Python and SQL, and with use of large language models
  • Ability to rapidly acquire familiarity with new technologies (graph database or large language models)
  • Ability to identify, interpret and analyse data using linking and statistical techniques to answer business problems including the identification of trends and/or patterns in complex data sets, and to create inference or insight
  • Ability to engage with customers and to communicate complex processes and results to them
  • Ability to help shape project direction by contributing to best practice research practices, analytical methodologies, systems and technologies
