About the Department
The Fleet Services Division is searching for a strong leader who thrives in a challenging fast paced environment while leading multiple teams and operations. As the Fleet Supervisor I, you will be responsible for the supervision of a variety of daily operations and positions including Parts and Materials Inventory Purchasing Specialists, and Light and Heavy Duty Mechanics. This position is responsible for all Contract Submission and Bid Approvals. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing work unit goals, objectives, and programs. Our ideal candidate will be known for building cohesive teams and establishing and maintaining positive relationships with employees, vendors, and coworkers! A successful candidate is a self-starter who has excellent leadership skills, interpersonal skills, ability to lead in a fast-paced environment, successfully managing teams independently.
ABOUT FLEET SERVICES DIVISION
The Fleet Services Division manages King County’s portfolio of vehicles and equipment. The team performs acquisition, maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of approximately 3,000 fleet assets for the County’s services associated with the Sheriff’s Office, Public Health, Roads, Parks, Wastewater, Water and Land Resources, and other agencies. The division manages two maintenance shops which include robust storerooms of automotive parts, materials, and construction supplies as well as several technicians working in the field to support remote customer sites.
In addition, the Fleet Division is responsible for the disposition of the county’s personal property assets, which includes a surplus warehouse in Georgetown. Disposal methods can include re-use within the county, donation to verified and approved non-profits, and sales through online portals or sealed/negotiated bids.

Position Duties
KEY DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTATIONS:To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate skill and ability to:
- Supervise the operations and staff of the parts department.
- Oversee the ordering of stock parts to maintain necessary inventory levels.
- Handle the procurement of special-order parts as required.
- Manage and monitor stocked inventory levels to ensure accuracy and availability.
- Conduct the return of surplus parts to suppliers when necessary.
- Supervise all clerical tasks related to the parts department.
- Provide guidance and direction to improve work quality, customer service, and employee satisfaction.
- Serve as a backup and provide assistance to other Shop Supervisors as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have a strong background and experiencein leading a team in one or more of these areas: Automotive parts and inventory, automotive shops, heavy-duty shops, and/ or Industrial work environment OR an equivalent background of education and experience.
- Have experience applying supervisory principles and practices in a represented/union environment, including work planning and performance management, and assigning, coordinating, and supervising work of employees at multiple sites and/or multiple bargaining groups in the same position.
- Have experience with occupational hazards and safety precautionsin a shop work environment which includes maintenance shop and transportation.
- Have experience in contract management and procurement.
- Demonstrate use of good judgment in dealing with conflict with a high degree of tact and diplomacy, OR an equivalent background of education and experience.
- Enjoy working collaboratively in a team environment. Willing to pitch in to help other team members.
- Have proactive time management skills and successfully complete tasks on time and supporting team members to complete tasks on time. Enjoys juggling multiple competing priorities with tight timelines and efficiently prioritizes work.
- Have the ability to effectively respond after hours to support customers during emergencies and/or natural disasters which could include flooding, snow/ice events, windstorms and earthquakes.
- Are comfortable using office productivity tools, relational databases, and payroll/financial systems in their daily work.(The county uses Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft Time & Labor, and Faster for Fleet Management).
WORK LOCATION: Primary work location is at the Renton Fleet Shop but may be assigned to either Fleet Motor Pool; 707 S. Orcas St., Seattle, WA 98108OR155 Monroe Ave NE., Renton, WA 98056.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position normally works 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with varying shifts. Work may be occasionally required in the evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not eligible for overtime. This position is Mission Critical. Alternative schedules may be required along with mandatory overtime and weekend work during emergencies.
