The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Competency Restoration Educator LPHA for Jail Based Competency Restoration Program. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Educator will be responsible for providing competency restoration services, which include legal education for defendants found incompetent to stand trial and psychosocial rehabilitation services. The CRE will provide training as identified by 46B statuary requirements with the curriculum approved by the state for competency restoration. The CRE must utilize effective strategies to implement a learning environment to facilitate change
Your role in action:
Facilitates identified instructor led courses as needed for competency restoration in an individual or group setting.
Works collaboratively with administration and management to enhance the overall quality of care and services provided across the agency in a trauma informed manner.
Provides communication to the treatment team related to defendants learning.
Demonstrates sensitivity to the cultural diversity of individuals served, family members, visitors, and fellow employees.
Assists in the monitoring of relevant standards, industry best practices, and evidence-supported practices ensuring that they meet and exceed healthcare training practices and statutory requirements.
Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements.
Monitors attendance of patients and communicates discrepancies to treatment team.
Enters completions of instructional courses for staff in an accurate and timely manner into patient’s record.
Demonstrates an ability to adapt and modify training materials to accommodate patient and agency needs.

What qualifications will you need:
Education:
- Master’s degree in the social/behavioral sciences or education
- Must have a current licensure in the state of Texas as: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed
Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT
Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in staff training or instruction.
- At least 2 years of experience working in the behavioral health or intellectual or developmental disability field
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of general business software, including Microsoft Office, word processing, information systems, and so forth.
2. Exceptional interpersonal skills.
3. Demonstrated expertise in communication skills, including public speaking, and professional writing.
4. High degree of empathy toward individuals with SMI/COPSD/SED/IDD and the staff who work with individuals with SMI/COPSD/SED/IDD.
5. Knowledge of appropriate rules, regulation, policies and procedures related to Competency Restoration.
