POSITION: Assistant Cook – Part Time
LOCATION: Red Cliff Elderly Nutrition Center
SALARY: $15.00/hour 25 hours per week
SUPERVISOR(S): Head Cook and Elderly Director
THIS IS A REGULAR PART-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION.
JOB SUMMARY: Assist the Head Cook and Full-Time Assistant Cook in Daily Operations, cooking, cleaning, ordering and the necessary paperwork including tracking client numbers and reporting as requested.
Position Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSILIBITIES:
- Maintain the dining area in a clean sanitary condition. Keep area pleasant and clean.
- Assume leadership role in Head Cook’s absence.
- Must be willing to work 8 hour shifts in the absence of the Head Cook.
- Work with Head Cook and independently as directed to prepare and serve meals in quantity, including main courses, accompaniments and desserts.
- Must be able to take direction and work well under supervision.
- Be primarily responsible for packaging homebound take-outs in a sanitary and orderly manner.
- Crush cans and cardboard for recycling.
- Wash and dry dishes, pots, and pans.
- Clean kitchen at end of each day.
- Ensure appropriate education and nutritional material is given to clients as directed by Head Cook or Elderly Director.
- Maintain record logs of meal participants and food temperatures.
- Must maintain professional composure in the face of conflict.
- Must demonstrate respect of clients in and out of the work environment.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE: Basic reading and writing skills. Knowledge of and sensitivity for Ojibwe culture and traditions. General knowledge of food preparation, recipe reading, and kitchen equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of high school diploma, HSED or GED preferred.
- Certification in ServeSafe Food or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hiring.
- Ability to work with a variety of people and clients.
- Ability to learn and understand cooking instructions.
- Ability to be accurate in maintaining daily logs of number of participations in home delivered meals and congregate meals.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility to be placed on the tribe’s vehicle insurance policy is preferred.
Other Qualifications
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Daily contact with Head Cook, Elderly Director, volunteers, Bayfield County Aging Department, Tribal Management, Vendors and Staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Individual will require standing for long periods of time, bending, lifting of food boxes up to 50 pounds, and reaching. The Assistant cook must be able to do all movements associated with cooking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Elderly Feeding Site. Work will be in the kitchen area and dining area. All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally. The Assistant Cook may have to assist with the delivery of home meals.
