About the Role
The ER Charge nurse specializes in assessing, intervening, and stabilizing a variety of trauma and illnesses with decisive action. Due to the range of medical conditions that may require urgent treatment and care, they must be knowledgeable about general as well as specific health issues. We are looking for a highly competent and well-organized professional who values safety, dignity and respect, and patient wellness above all else. We focus on providing the best care possible while ensuring patient satisfaction in every interaction. The Charge Nurse is responsible for making sure those values are always reflected in his or her staff.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures that Departmental mission and objectives are maintained for the unit with interpretation of these objectives to staff as necessary.
- Coordinates Departmental activities with responsibility for the assessment of the quality and efficiency of these activities.
- Assesses complexity of patient care and Department service needs to coordinate assignment of nursing staff to meet all required services on his/ her designated shift.
- Maintains necessary transfer log, emergency department log, department audits and necessary audits to assure the department and staff meet expected standards of care.
- Supervises personnel providing direct patient care, with delegation of activities based on patient care needs and competencies of available patient care staff.
- Provides direct and ongoing supervision of staff about schedules, conflict resolution, and personnel policy compliance, including input for performance evaluations.
- Ensures implementation of operational standards which promote the maintenance of patient rights including, but not limited to:
- Informed consent.
- Clarification of patient expectations.
- Explanation of treatment processes.
- Maintenance of confidentiality of patient information.
- Maintenance of patient privacy by minimizing exposure during all procedures.
- Adaptation of care to all ages of patients served.
- Ethical considerations.
- Handling of patient complaints.
- In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in unit.
- Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff.
- Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided when s/he is on duty.
- Supports the overall departments and directors’ goals.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- BSN required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in ER setting.
- Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience as a licensed RN.
- Current and active CPR certification.
- Charge Nurse Experience Preferred.
- Computer skills preferred.
