POSITION TITLE: Career Development Specialist II
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: TANF NV
SUPERVISOR: Career Development Manager or Designee
GRADE: NE12 $23.00 ($47,840) - $34.50 ($71,760)
Position Summary:
In accordance with the four purposes of TANF, and under direct supervision, the Career Development Specialist II is responsible for developing job opportunities with local businesses and organizations in a specific service delivery area. Provides job-seeking skills, subsidized and full-time employment opportunities for program participants. Provides ongoing support for participants. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program, Sierra Region Work Experience Program (WEX), Summer Youth Employment Services, and College Internship Program. Ensures effective tracking of program success, participation rates, and job placements.
· Coordinates Summer Youth Employment Services and College Internship Program to provide structured work-based learning experiences. Monitors college students' progress and tracks their job placements post-graduation.
· Prepares and tracks Career Development proposals through the necessary routing process including assigning project tracking numbers. Tracks, Manages and Reports project proposals and project outcomes and oversees projects from beginning to closeout.
· Maintains records including tracking of measurable outcomes.
· Maintains project budgets and tracks expenditures and transactions.
· Attends regularly scheduled tribal community meetings to represent WNTP and provide program updates and coordination of classes/programs.
· Manages project/programming communications through newsletters, media relations, social media, and other faucets to advertise events/activities to increase attendance and ensure program success.
· Collaborates with other TANF employees as required.
· Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· Associate’s Degree in business, public administration, social services or related field and three years’ experience in job development, career counseling, or coordinating employment and job search activities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
· Knowledge of internet job banks and services.
· Knowledge of available community resources and services.
· Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
· Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
· Knowledge of records management procedures.
· Knowledge of the functions and structure of the Washoe Tribe and tribal customs and traditions.
· Ability to advocate for economically disadvantaged or unemployed individuals.
· Ability to plan and make presentations to groups including potential employers, business representatives and program participants.
· Ability to assess the interests and skills of clients for job placement.
· Ability to learn and analyze labor market trends in the service area.
· Ability to produce marketing and visual aid material to potential employers and business groups.
· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
· Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
· Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written form.
· Skill in operating business computers and office machines, in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle.
Work Environment:
Work is performed both in the community at-large and in an office setting with a moderate noise level.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:

- Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the state of Nevada or California within 30 days
- Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe’s driving policy
- Preference will be given to qualified Native American Indians
