GENERAL SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Grant Accountant helps with all accounting and financial service functions of the Finance Department. The Senior Grant Accountant assists the Accounting Manager in all aspects of accounting for Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada partner non-profit organization. This includes giving fiscal support, reviewing/monitoring individual grants and transactions for compliance, billing and collections, and maintaining relationships with funders to ensure accurate and timely reporting per the grant expectations.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepares balance sheet account reconciliations for member organizations. 
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly billing to funders. 
  • Collects monthly data from program staff and ensures accurate amounts are recorded through preparation of journal entries. 
  • Provides support to Accounting Manager during month-end close. 
  • Communicates with funders to ensure compliance with reporting requirements. 
  • Provides guidance to Accounts Payable staff to ensure expenses align with budgets and funder requirements. 
  • Prepares Accounts Receivable entries for claims and invoices submitted to funders. 
  • Prepares allocations for shared expenses among multiple programs and organizations. 
  • Provides guidance to program staff to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. 
  • Assists during grant and financial audits.  
  • Ensures compliance with all Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada policies, CARF standards, financial, regulatory, safety and security regulations. 
  • Processes payroll and administers employee benefits, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
  • Maintains payroll records, reconciles benefits-related accounts, and collaborates with HR to resolve payroll and benefits issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned  


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 


  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in grant accounting. 
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll processing and benefits administration (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, compliance requirements, and benefits reporting.
  • Experience reconciling payroll and benefits accounts within a nonprofit or multi-program organization preferred.
  • Experience with contracts and/or grants administration, specifically around management allowable costs. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state and private grant budgetary restrictions as applicable. 
  • Mathematical skills to calculate and analyze complex financial formulas. 
  • Experience using complex automated financial, payroll and personnel systems, spreadsheets, databases, web browsers, etc. 
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse population of staff, coworkers and external contacts. 
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify problems, gather related information from diverse resources, analyze complex data, and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems. 
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and applicable laws relating to the maintenance of confidential and sensitive information 
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Proficiency in Netsuite software preferred.

This position is a full-time, exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403(b) retirement plan; Flex-Time Off.

  • Work environment is usually hectic/fast paced with frequent short deadlines and regular instances of critical or unusual situations.   
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment.
