RxSight® is an ophthalmic medical technology corporation headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California that has commercialized the world’s first and only adjustable intraocular lens (IOL) that is customized after cataract surgery. OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the VP of Chemistry R&D, the Synthetic Chemist I will play a key role in the development and optimization of new materials and additives for RxSight’s Light Adjustable Lens. This hands-on position is primarily laboratory-based, with responsibilities that include executing experiments, collecting and analyzing data with precision, and providing valuable insights to advance product innovation.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated scientist who thrives working independently, demonstrates strong critical thinking skills, and consistently maintains meticulous, well-organized records. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Synthesize, purify, and characterize novel chromophores and photo-responsive small molecules to advance Light Adjustable Lens technology.
  • Perform purification and analysis using techniques such as HPLC, SEC, and related methodologies.
  • Synthesize and characterize macromolecular additives for polymer resins.
  • Support scale-up activities, including synthesis of building blocks, optimization of reaction parameters, and purification and characterization of intermediates and final products.
  • Conduct basic characterization of silicone-based polymeric materials using GPC, viscosity, rheology, and DSC techniques.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory of chemicals, consumables, and related supplies to ensure uninterrupted research activities.
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and implementation of new processes and protocols.
  • Present experimental progress, findings, and recommendations during chemistry group and project team meetings.


Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Hands-on experience in the synthesis of small molecules and macromolecules (preferred).
  • Proficiency with chemical characterization techniques, including UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, GC, GC-MS, and HPLC.
  • Familiarity with materials characterization techniques such as GPC, DSC, and mechanical property testing using a universal tester.
  • Strong record-keeping skills and experience with electronic lab notebook (ELN) platforms.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.

  • None

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry with focus on organic chemistry is required.
  • Training to be completed per the training plan for this position as maintained in the document control system
  • The training requirements on TRN-10007 Insider Trading Policy, TRN-10008 Global Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy and TRN-10009 Code of Business Conducts and Ethics must be diligently completed within 30 days from the hiring date and on an annual basis
