Job Summary/Objective:
The Assistant Structural Engineer performs structural analyses of simple to moderate levels of complexity on existing telecommunications structures (antenna mounts, towers, water tanks, rooftops) and prepares formal, written reports detailing the capacities and recommendations for modifications needed to bring the structure into compliance with applicable codes.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Perform analyses on telecom mounts and tower projects of simple to moderate levels of complexity using hand calculations, structural engineering software, and other accepted methods.
• Generate formal engineering reports.
• Review documentation to determine that adequate information is provided to complete structural engineering services.
• Answer structural related inquiries from internal and external customers.
• Provide assistance to senior engineers on unique projects.
• Perform site visits to gather required data for structural engineering services.
• Ensure accurate project status reporting both internally and externally.
• Keep up with new technical methods and developments related to tower engineering.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred.
• 2-4 years of structural engineering experience.
• Telecommunication industry experience preferred.
• Proficiency with structural engineering software.
Preferred and Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Active participation in professional engineering associates or technical committees.
Skills Required:
• Strong organizational skills and ability to accomplish multiple tasks and projects within the agreed upon timeframes.
• Demonstrate focus on accuracy and high attention to detail.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently to complete tasks as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and share knowledge.
• Ability to work with functional groups and different levels of employees throughout the organization.
• Proficient with engineering software like Risa-3D, tnxTower, Enercalc, AutoCAD as well as Microsoft Office products.
• Knowledge of TIA, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and state building codes.
