Description
This Financial Specialist is responsible for managing the Capital budget and providing back-up for the co-financial specialist on the O&M budget. In addition, this position works closely with system owners, engineers, and plant management to ensure capital projects are budgeted in compliance with designated processes and procedures, while meeting plant and corporate budget targets.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the Capital Budgets for coal and combined cycle units, while working closely with engineers and system owners
- Monitor, track, and project capital expenditures
- Work closely with engineers to monitor capital projects to ensure in-service and completions dates are accurately reflected.
- Work closely with property accounting to ensure as-built and retirement information is entered on the work orders in a timely manner
- Develop reporting as needed to inform plant management of the plant’s financial status
- Collaborate with Corporate Generation Budget personnel and other plants as needed for consistent information sharing and processes.
- Work together with the O&M Financial Specialist to ensure outage budgets are developed, tracked, and maintained efficiently
- Work together with the O&M Financial Specialist to manage unrecorded liabilities.
- Work closely with corporate accounting/budgeting to ensure budget targets are met.
- Fully understand the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 along with associated regulations and how it impacts financial reporting and business cycles identified at the plant.
Qualifications and Related Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field required.
- Master’s degree a plus, but not required
- Advanced Excel experience required
- Budget management in an industrial and/or corporate setting preferred
- Effective communication skills preferred.
- Contract administration preferred
- Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and FERC accounting requirements is preferred
- Experience in Maximo or similar software preferred.
- ORACLE software experience preferred
- Must be detail and deadline oriented; have excellent analytical skills; be capable of understanding technical information and identifying associated risks and issues; be capable of anticipating, planning for and managing current and future financial/accounting controls and requirements; be customer-service oriented; show initiative, and take ownership of work.
