POSITION DESCRIPTION

St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling roughly 950 girls age 3 through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Information Systems department seeks a Network Admin & User Support Technician to begin work as soon as possible. A successful candidate will be customer focused, have the desire and energy to relate well to teaching and non-teaching staff, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and proven adaptability to emerging technologies. Additionally, the successful candidate will have intimate knowledge of network infrastructure, Apple device management, and a solid understanding of common terms and protocols used in everyday network operations.

Position Status:  Salaried Exempt, full-time, 12-months

Hours of Work:  Standard work week with flexibility based on scheduled events

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Infrastructure & Device Management:

  • Respond to and manage help desk tickets related to the network infrastructure and end user devices.
  • Analyze, maintain and enhance the school’s network infrastructure based on faculty, staff and student needs.
  • Prepare, deploy and upgrade network switches, routers, access points, etc. and software as needed to enhance network reliability and connectivity based on system specifications and usage analysis.
  • Deploy other devices such as desk phones, emergency notification speakers, emergency beacons, peripheral devices, etc. as required by the school.
  • Monitor and support network infrastructure to ensure maximum up time for faculty, staff and students on campus. This includes backup and recovery of user data, user account management, internet access, and application support.
  • Maintain user access to the network and internet and applications using an MDM system, such as Mosyle Manager, and modern network standards and protocols.
  • Manage campus printers, scanners and copiers to ensure all user needs are being addressed.
  • Order supplies and coordinate the repair and maintenance of campus printers through a 3rd party printer vendor.
  • Analyze monthly printing and adjust thresholds with service provider(s) as needed.
  • Determine software specifications for printing and scanning, and ensure operating system images for faculty, staff and students are updated as necessary to include the proper software.

User Support Technical Services:

  • Serve as a help desk team member and point of contact for students, faculty and staff with questions or issues related to their school-issued Apple laptops and tablets.
  • Facilitate issue resolution of laptops, either by implementing the solution or involving Apple support for more complex issues.
  • Diagnose system errors and related issues.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to in-room technology hardware and software.
  • Manage administrative settings and operating system updates on devices using Mosyle Manager (MDM).

Other Duties:

  • Interacts with all other Information Systems staff members to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Information Systems or other appropriate managers or administrators.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to grasp, and handle objects; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS & DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess an Associates degree or higher in a technology related field and/or a combination of education, certifications and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Strong customer service skills and comfort with face to face interactions.
  • Comfortable working with network switch and access point configurations and controls.
  • Significant experience troubleshooting all Apple devices; smartphones, tablets and desktop/laptops.
  • A working knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 plus all related applications.
  • Experience working with the JAMF or Mosyle Manager MDM systems preferred.
  • Experience using print management software like PaperCut preferred.
