Rapid City Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused individual to join our Business Office in a full-time Patient Financial Services role. This vital position plays a key role in supporting patients and staff by providing clear, accurate, and compassionate assistance with billing-related inquiries—all while delivering exceptional customer service.


As a Patient Financial Services team member, you’ll help ensure a smooth financial experience for our patients by educating them about billing, processing payments, and resolving account issues. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Communicate in a polite, prompt and helpful manner via phone & face-to-face opportunities.
  • Effectively decipher, review, and relay insurance processing outcomes.
  • Research, validate, and input demographics information & other aspects of the account.
  • Provide education while maintaining healthy financial relationships.
  • Review and audit patient accounts. 
  • Reconcile patient accounts.
  • Provide billing education to resolve patient billing disputes. 
  • Initiate and monitor payment plans.
  • Process payments via phone.
  • Promote open communication with clinical staff supporting financial policies and processes.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

EDUCATION: 

High school degree or equivalent. Must be 18 years or older.


EXPERIENCE: 

Healthcare experience preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

  • No Surprise Billing Act
  • Medical terminology
  • Insurance billing/processing
  • Collections
  • HIPAA
  • Read and interpret an explanation of benefits (EOB)
  • Microsoft Office

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work is performed in an office environment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: 

  • Job requires largely sedentary role requiring one’s ability to sit for extended period.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
  • Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard.
