Summary
The Quality Engineer applies quality improvement principles that drive the conformance and continual improvement of the supply chain and the internal quality management system.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely with Purchasing and Product Development Engineering to evaluate the ability of suppliers to produce products that conform to new or existing specifications
- Design and continually improve the acceptance sample plans required to effectively evaluate the quality of purchased product
- Design and continually improve the Quality Assurance Department quality management system procedures
- Monitor nonconforming purchased product; contact suppliers regarding quality, dimensional and assembly issues
- Control and drive the containment, reporting and disposition of nonconforming product, internal or external, as it occurs
- Contribute to the development and continual improvement of company-wide objectives
- Develop, compile and report trended nonconformance data on a periodic basis
- Develop, improve and train upon measurement systems, evaluating repeatability and reproducibility; study, identify and reconcile measurement system differences
- Work closely with Production verifying machining, assembly, and product quality issues
- Establish the critical characteristics, facilitate the measurements, analyze and report the results of the first piece inspection process
- Represent Quality Assurance in Product Development team meetings
- Establish, maintain and revise all purchased product inspection files, as released engineering files dictate
- Assist Inspectors in the investigation and evaluation of product or process quality status
- Monitor and trend Quality Assurance lot control testing results
- Promote a safe workplace by performing all tasks in a safe and thoughtful manner in compliance with all rules, procedures, instructions, devices, equipment and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintain vigilance for any hazardous conditions or practices in the workplace and immediately report any unsafe conditions or practice to your supervisor

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the shop floor
- Some travel may be required
- Ability to be punctual and attend work on a regular and consistent basis
- Ability to concentrate with various interruptions and various noise levels
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
- Occasionally will be expected to lift small boxes not to exceed 40 pounds
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a quality professional, preferable as a degreed Industrial or Mechanical Engineer
- Associate engineering degree – two years of experience waived
- Bachelor engineering degree – four years of experience waived
