 Job Title: Gift Officer – Individual Giving 

Position Overview 


The Louisiana SPCA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Gift Officer – Individual Giving to join our Advancement Team. This position is primarily responsible for acquiring, cultivating, and soliciting a portfolio of individual donors and prospects with the capacity to give $1,000 or more annually, with a heightened focus on upgrading donors to Major Donor levels ($5,000+). 


The Gift Officer will play a vital role in expanding the Louisiana SPCA’s 4Paws donor program ($1,000+), managing and growing a portfolio of leadership-level donors, and supporting volunteer activities in assigned markets. In addition, this role will oversee donor communications, stewardship, and the execution of individual giving plans, while managing volunteer leadership committees to broaden engagement and philanthropic impact. 


The successful candidate will be a proven nonprofit fundraising professional with a track record of building and sustaining mutually beneficial donor relationships. This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser prepared to excel in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The Gift Officer reports to the Advancement Director, works closely with the Advancement Team (which includes fundraising, marketing and communications), and collaborates across all departments to advance the mission of the Louisiana SPCA. 

Requirements

 Key Responsibilities 

Leadership Giving & 4Paws Program:
Manage a portfolio of 250+ mid-level “4Paws” donors and prospects capable of giving between $1,000–$9,999, with a focus on securing new gifts and upgrading donors—particularly at the $5,000+ level—through proactive cultivation and solicitation. 


Donor Cultivation & Stewardship:
Implement individualized donor plans for portfolio members, ensuring consistent communication and engagement. Track donor activities, preferences, and moves management steps in the CRM (currently Raiser’s Edge). 


Planned Giving & Recurring Donors:
Develop and implement periodic Planned Giving messaging and solicitations to mid-level donors, including targeted mailings and personal outreach. Support the growth and stewardship of recurring donors through tailored communication and recognition. 


Direct Mail Campaigns:
Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications teams to design and execute effective direct mail strategies to maximize donor participation and revenue. 


Prospect Research:
Identify and qualify prospects using research tools such as ResearchPoint to build a robust pipeline for mid-level and major donor cultivation. 


Volunteer & Committee Leadership:
In coordination with the Advancement Director, manage the Development Committee and volunteer leadership groups to expand networks of prospective supporters and strengthen stewardship strategies. 


Strategic Collaboration:
Work closely with program and communications staff to develop compelling donor materials, ensuring donor communications reflect the organization’s work and impact. Contribute to strategies that achieve three-year revenue growth goals and support the Louisiana SPCA’s strategic plan. 


Other:
This position may be asked to prepare written proposals for donors and family foundations and manage event specific individual giving and VIP sponsorships.  Some evening and weekend hours will be needed to meet the meet with donors and volunteers. Travel is primarily local but will from time to time include attendance at key events and meetings throughout the United States, overnight travel. The Gift Officer position is strongly desired to be within regular commutable distance of the Greater New Orleans area. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

Minimum of 4 years of fundraising experience with a demonstrated ability to secure gifts between $1,000–$9,999. 

Proven track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and volunteers. 

Ability to work independently while building strong internal and external relationships. 

Comfortable solicitation donations in person, on the phone or through written communication.  able to tailor messaging for different audiences and donor needs. 

Proficiency with donor databases and prospect research tools. 


EDUCATION: 

Bachelor’s Degree in sales, marketing, fundraising, communications, public relations or related field or directly equivalent experience.? 


Physical Requirements & Working Environment 

The role requires regular talking, hearing, sitting, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.? 

Must not be allergic to animals or nuts; able to work around all animals. 

Potential exposure to animal bites and scratches. 

Ability to work in a high-noise environment.

Pay Range: $60,000 - $70,000 BOE
