TITLE: Instructional Systems Specialist
LOCATION: North Central Office
JOB GOAL:
The Instructional Systems Specialist is responsible for the management, integration, and support of core instructional and operational technology platforms, including Apple School Manager, Mosyle MDM, Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), and ClassLink. This includes overseeing the configuration, maintenance, and security of Apple devices such as iPads and MacBooks, as well as the software and applications used for educational and instructional purposes. The role also involves collaborating with educators and administrators to ensure that technology enhances the learning experience and facilitates effective classroom management and successful integration and use of technology. The ideal candidate will have a very strong understanding of Mosyle and Apple School Manager, as well as experience in managing Apple devices in an educational setting. This position ensures seamless provisioning, security, usability, and maintenance of systems critical to teaching, learning, and school operations. The specialist works collaboratively with IT, curriculum teams, faculty, and staff to optimize technology use and enhance the student and teacher experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Director and Assistant Director of Technology & Information Services in providing leadership, direction, and guidance to staff to achieve the department’s short-range and long-term goals while meeting KCKPS educational mission and business objectives.
- Administer Apple School Manager (ASM), including creation and management of accounts, device assignments, Managed Apple IDs, and integration with the student information system (SIS).
- Manage the Mosyle Mobile Device Management (MDM) system, overseeing device enrollment, configuration profiles, app deployment, restrictions, and compliance policies for iPads, Macs, and other Apple devices.
- Administer and maintain Canvas LMS, including user provisioning, course creation, integrations with other tools, system configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with ClassLink related tickets.
- Enroll new devices in Mosyle and configure them according to district policies.
- Deploy apps, content, and updates to devices using Mosyle.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with Apple devices, ASM and Mosyle.
- Provide training and support to teachers and staff on how to use Mosyle and Apple School Manager.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement technology-enhanced instructional strategies.
- Stay up to date on the latest Apple technologies and educational best practices.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, COPPA, and other applicable student data privacy standards.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Director, or Assistant Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Mosyle and Apple School Manager is required.
- 2+ years of experience managing or supporting Canvas or another LMS highly desirable.
- 2+ years of experience managing or supporting ClassLink or another SSO.
- Certified Apple Device Manager (CADM) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Proficient in iOS and macOS operating systems.
- Knowledge of mobile device management (MDM) and remote configuration tools.
- Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and producing results.
- Demonstrated ability in developing and executing office policies and procedures that support the district priorities and goals.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
- Demonstrated ability in strong customer/client focus.
- Demonstrated strong ethical conduct and personal credibility to represent the school district.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize sound judgment and formulate appropriate responses to a wide variety of problems and situations.
- Strong skills in planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating activities.
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a team environment is required.
- Requires occasional evening or weekend work during peak system updates, school year rollovers, or technology deployments.
COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel, and administration to enhance cooperative action which will meet the development of a viable workforce. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations relevant to personnel processes. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the public. Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects and programs; overseeing program financial activities; developing effective working relationships; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and administering personnel policies and procedures, working with detailed information/data and maintaining accurate records; maintaining confidentiality; and facilitating communication between persons with frequently divergent positions.
