Position Summary:
Designs components or portions of a system of components to develop or improve existing products while reducing cost, enhancing performance, or facilitating manufacturing operations. Designs products or systems of moderate to difficult scope and complexity. Creates assemblies and drawings using computer-aided design tools and provides related technical support and coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Under direction of design or project engineers, develops assigned portions of design by analyzing product specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capability. Performs routine design and supports fabrication of new components, subsystems, and systems, by applying advanced drafting and basic engineering principles.
- Prepares product or system layouts, detailed drawings, and assembly drawings by using computer-aided design tools and following industry and drawing standards. May assist in developing basic data and preparing preliminary layouts, sketches, notes and documentation in response to customer proposal requests.
- Reviews drawings and layouts prepared by others to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies errors, omissions, and other deficiencies.
- May conduct routine analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes by applying advanced drafting and basic engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals. May provide input to development and test requirements.
- Recommends changes to refine and enhance products and process by applying continuous improvement principles and techniques.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing industry networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and/or participating in professional associations.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
- Shares specialized knowledge with others. Represents the Company on specific projects. Mentors new employees.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement, quality, design, or test engineering).
- Manages configuration portion of product life-cycle management tools (e.g., Enovia).
- All other duties assigned by management.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree (AS) in Engineering or Two-Year Technical Degree and 5-7 years of related experience desired.
- Extensive knowledge of drafting principles, concepts, and techniques. Must have familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methods.
- Advanced knowledge of design and drawing practices, tolerancing and use of computer-aided design and basic engineering analysis tools.
- Creative, self-lead individual who demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude and is able to give technical instructions to other facets of the business.
- Proficient in use of 2D CAD/CAM and 3D CAD/CAM wireframe and solids work. Specifically, must be highly proficient in Siemens NX CAD Design software.
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles.
- Ability to work with and mentor engineers and engineering designers.
- General knowledge of aerospace industry or similar industry products and legal and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing environments.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and policies and recommend changes to procedures.
- Ability to work on complex assignments where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required.
- Possesses interpersonal skills suitable for frequent interface with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management.
- Ability to research and analyze data and develop recommendations or resolve problems.
- Ability to work on a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires thorough identification of factors and analysis of impact.
- Ability to work with only general work direction and instructions regarding the scope of assignments, determine priority and order of assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, climb and sit for extended periods of time. The team member is required to demonstrate manual dexterity and use hands to operate machinery. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Also expected of the team member is regular attendance and the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
