Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. Diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affect the lives of many people in our communities. Our goal is to create a world-leading resource for health research, to improve our understanding and spot the patterns of how and why common diseases start, so treatments can begin sooner and be more effective.
We are looking for a Scientist to be an integral part of a new research data product squad, responsible for delivering our research data releases. You will ensure that our research data releases are of a high scientific standard, well documented, and ready to be showcased to a wide audience of external researcher users (e.g. life science companies, charities, start-ups and SMEs, health care professionals, government policy makers and academics).
As a Scientist in Researcher Data, you will :
- Collaborate closely with the research data product squad, and with other teams responsible for upstream data acquisition or processing, to develop Our Future Health’s research data releases
- Be responsible for the scientific content of the main documentation for Our Future Health data and data releases, and work with other expert contributors and colleagues in Communications to ensure that documentation is complete, accurate, transparent, and consistent
- Provide additional scientific support to their squad and the wider Science team, acting as a bridge between scientific excellence and the needs of research users, ensuring that data releases are impactful, accessible, and aligned with user needs
- Engaging with external stakeholders and represent their squad and the Science team to disseminate information about data releases
- Contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the squad and Science team
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will have experience both in conducting health research, and in adjacent activities in coordinating, managing, or communicating about health research. These experiences might have been gained either through requirements of a broad research role, or through separate roles during your career. You will also have some of the following:
- PhD (or an MSc with relevant experience) in epidemiology or a related subject in biomedicine
- Excellent understanding of epidemiological concepts, study design and methods, especially in relation to cohort studies
- Experience adjacent to pure research activities, for example in study or clinical trial management, research coordination or programme management, data curation, research enablement, or scientific communications
- Significant experience in documenting and communicating about research (including publications)
- Practical proficiency in data analysis and a working knowledge of R or Python
- Ability to work independently as well as part of cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication skills with scientific, technical and non-technical colleagues
- Experience presenting research results, and an ability to represent Our Future Health at external meetings
- Enthusiasm for working in agile, cross-functional teams
- A commitment to creating research data products to a high scientific standard
- Keen interest in ensuring data products are both rigorous and effective in meeting user needs
- A pragmatic outlook and ability to prioritise
