The Security Systems Coordinator provides specialized support for the operation, maintenance, and integration of critical security systems, including CCTV, access control, key management, and radio communications. Working in close collaboration with Day and Night Shift Coordinators, this position ensures the technical infrastructure supporting campus safety is fully functional, secure, and aligned with operational needs. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Security Systems Coordinator provides shift oversight and coverage, serving as Shift Supervisor in Charge when assigned. The role also performs the full range of general security duties, including patrols, incident response, guest engagement, and emergency support, to maintain consistent coverage of public safety and security operations across the zoo campus.
This position requires schedule flexibility to support both Day and Evening Coordinators. Shift assignments and scheduled days off are determined by operational needs and may change over time to ensure consistent support across the zoo campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Systems Operations & Integration
- Maintain and monitor daily operations of DZCA security systems, including Avigilon CCTV, Avigilon Access Control, Assa Abloy Traka Key software, Asure ID, and Motorola Radios.
- Create, modify, and deactivate ID badges; assign appropriate access levels and conduct regular audits.
- Assist with key control systems: process new key requests, assign locker access, perform basic repairs, and assist with system audits.
- Collaborate with IT, vendors, and systems integrators to troubleshoot issues, perform preventive maintenance, and assist with system upgrades.
- Coordinate installation and testing of new security equipment; ensure functionality and maintain documentation.
- Support the Security Manager with technical projects, operational initiatives, and daily departmental duties as assigned.
Leadership Support & Collaboration
- Serve as Shift Supervisor in Charge when assigned, overseeing daily operations and coordinating security personnel.
- Assign duties, monitor post coverage, and ensure continuity of operations across the shift.
- Provide real-time performance feedback and support to shift staff.
- Act as liaison with other departments and external agencies when leadership is unavailable.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, teamwork, and guest engagement.
- Serve as a technical liaison during incidents, assisting with CCTV footage retrieval, access logs, and system-based investigations.
- Provide systems-related support to Day and Night Shift Coordinators, including badge issuance, radio distribution, and access troubleshooting.
- Participate in shift briefings and contribute to operational planning for events, rentals, and contractor access.
- Perform the full range of duties of Security Officers, including responding to radio calls, conducting campus patrols, providing crowd control, responding to emergencies, and administering first aid.
Emergency Response
- Assist with emergency procedures involving system lockdowns, access control overrides, and communication support.
- Serve in a technical role within the Incident Command System (ICS) during emergencies; support coordination with public safety responders.
- Administer first aid and assist with crowd control and incident response as needed.
Training & Documentation
- Provide shift-based instruction on policies, procedures, systems use, First Aid/CPR/AED, and de-escalation.
- Maintain organized records of system activity, maintenance logs, access audits, and training completion.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials, and departmental documentation.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Other assistance, as designated by department leaders, to support the overall goals of the department and organization. DZCA retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
- Staff Coordination: Guide and support Security personnel; provide on-the-job training, shift oversight, and peer leadership while supporting departmental standards and objectives.
- Acts as a good steward for DZCA resources. Ensure accurate reporting of security technology budget, including inventory management and tracking.
- The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of DZCA.
- This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of a high school degree or equivalent is required.
- Two or more years of experience required in civilian or military security, safety, loss prevention, or law enforcement, interacting effectively with emotional guests and employees to provide resolutions, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills. Experience working in a high-volume, customer-focused venue or attraction, and/or working in a non-profit, is preferred. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Hands-on experience with security systems, including CCTV platforms, electronic access control, key management software, incident documentation tools, and visitor management systems.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and support integrated security systems in a dynamic operational environment.
- Ability to provide shift oversight and coverage when assigned, including assigning posts, monitoring operations, and serving as a point of contact for security needs.
- Skilled in situational assessment and decision-making; demonstrates sound judgment and composure under pressure during incidents and emergencies.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage professionally with guests, staff, volunteers, contractors, and public safety officials.
- Knowledge of standard security procedures, including patrols, access control, incident investigation, and emergency response protocols.
- Ability to support and guide staff while fostering a culture of professionalism, safety, and guest service.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams; adaptable to changing priorities and operational needs.
- Capable of handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Preferred experience includes coaching or training others and working collaboratively with departments in direct or matrixed relationships.
- Demonstrated fluency in a language other than English.
Licences/Certifications:
- Required to obtain and maintain a Colorado Class “R” Driver’s License with a clear driving record within three months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Required to obtain a Denver Security Guard License within 3 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Required to obtain and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (Adult/Child/Infant) within 3 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
Position Conditions
- To support our security operations, candidates must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a physical examination, background check, and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Ability to obtain a Denver Security License.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Schedule Availability: Ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with occasional overtime shifts.
- Must be able to move (80 acres) and/or stand up to 8 hours daily in adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, snow, or extreme heat.
- Required to obtain and maintain certification in Stop the Bleed, First Aid, CPR, and AED (Adult/Child/Infant) within 3 months of hire and maintain throughout employment. (Provided and maintained through the organization).
- Work Location: On campus.
Compensation
The range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00 (hourly).
