The Controls Engineering Supervisor is responsible for project management activities including supervision of engineers, maintenance staff and contractors for various types of projects related to automation control system design.  The Engineering Supervisor is also responsible for design, development, specification, programming, training, testing and implementation of equipment automation.  

Essential Duties: 

  • Supervises two or more Controls Engineers.
  • Directs the work of staff consisting of engineers, technicians and contractors. 
  • Develops various types of maintenance and capital projects for the division as measured by cost control, adherence to project schedules and compliance to standard engineering practices. 
  • Develops project proposals with equipment suppliers.
  • Approves supplier products and bill of materials for electrical assemblies and components.
  • Manages the configuration of hardware and programs software per application specifications.
  • Manages a team responsible for hardware and software maintenance of the control systems for equipment automation. 
  • Develops department maintenance staff to ensure technicians are properly trained in complex controls maintenance activities.
  • Develops the capital budget for assigned areas.
  • Responsible for compliance with local, state and federal codes related to safe maintenance work practices as measured through internal department compliance audits and safety records.
  • Must be able to fulfill all of the obligations of the Controls Engineer
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of experience in a similar position is required. Experience in automated warehousing or manufacturing preferred. 
  • 3+ years of experience in the supervision of employees is required. 
  • Must be profient with Ignition and Allen Bradley Software. 
  • Ability to program, maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, AC & DC drives, various photo-optics, laser scanners, and other field devices associated with control systems.
  • Proven track record in standard concepts, practices and procedures for electromechanical maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Must be proficient reading and interpreting wiring schematics.
  • Must be proficient in the MS Office Suite software (Project, Word, Excel), CMMS and AutoCAD (or similar)
  • Working knowledge of principles involving HMI or SCADA systems.
  • Familiar with panel design layout and bill of materials.
  • Working knowledge of reporting methods and tools for tracking and managing key performance metrics
  • Familiar with OSHA and EPA requirements related to maintenance and projects.
  • Ability to train technical and non-technical personnel
  • Must be flexible and willing to fulfill the needs of the department which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Regularly stand, sit, walk, communicate when necessary to complete duties, and taste or smell. 
  • Frequently required to reach and handle objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
