We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Business Systems Analyst to join our team. This role is ideal for a proactive problem solver who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving enterprise analysis, managing system enhancements, supporting production operations, and delivering high-quality business requirements and testing strategies. With opportunities to lead smaller projects and contribute to larger initiatives, this position offers a blend of strategic influence, hands-on configuration, and cross-functional collaboration.


Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $62,000 to $91,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.


Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Able to self manage smaller projects.  Work closely with Project Managers and Product Owners on larger initiatives as a member of Project teams. Some familiarity working in an Agile Software Development is beneficial. 
  • IT Influence/Leadership: Represents the team in interdepartmental projects and corporate initiatives; consults with the business area on the low to moderately complex system-related issues and makes recommendations for better utilizing the available technology. Recognized by peers and business partners as a subject matter expert in their assigned area(s) and shares business and systems knowledge with others.
  • Enterprise Analysis: Identifies business opportunities or solutions to complex business problems and helps determine the optimum project investment path for the enterprise including implementation of new business and technical system solutions. Acts as a resource to define with the scope and objectives of complex system-related projects using various analysis, research and fact-finding techniques, and evaluates the proposed new systems or enhancements for estimates and feasibility. Challenges the status quo and recommends innovative solutions that provide the most valuable outcome the fastest and poses the least risk to the enterprise. Understands the pros and cons and the corresponding impact of proposed solutions/changes for complex projects to the business and other systems. Consults with the business area on system-related issues and makes recommendations for better utilizing the available technology.
  • Quality Assurance/Testing: Ensures complex products, goods and services satisfy customer requirements using a standard process methodology. Actively participates in reviews of code, specifications, requirements, etc. to develop, document and implement repeatable test plans. Proactively diagnoses problems through research, analysis, and understanding of structured languages. Absorbs the project documentation to gain an in-depth understanding of the requirements and how Quality Assurance will be used for each individual project.
  • Requirement Process: Using a structured approach, develops a comprehensive set of requirements or business models necessary to create the desired sustainable “to be” business environment. Translates end-user requirements into workflow and procedural changes and specifications for low to moderately complex system modifications as appropriate. Ensures that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, traceable, unambiguous and verifiable and that they conform to defined standards. Uses a variety of analysis tools to resolve moderately complex business problems.
  • Production Support: Diagnoses and manages software defects and system anomalies to a successful resolution. Works with software developers to resolve complex problems and provides detailed diagnostic information.
  • Application Configuration: Creates, maintains and coordinates updates to a moderately complex critical system data elements and configurable applications, including rules, values, tables and output with little or no development resource assistance. Understands the moderately complex data structure and database schemas. Creates and runs queries to generate, validate, and analyze data from various applications.
  • Training: Prepares end-user procedures and manuals and provides end-user training for moderately complex new or changed system functionality. Motivates fellow team members through knowledge sharing and mentoring.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of applicable industry requirements and business systems and related products, requirements and processes.
  • Has an understanding of the system's underlying values, tables, and codes and their impact on system processing.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and the ability to apply industry standard business systems analysis tools, techniques and best practices. Able to deliver industry standard business systems analysis artifacts.
  • Analytical skills and problem solving skills; competent to work in many system analysis phases and to consider moderate business implications of applying technology to the current and future business environment.
  • Understands and uses appropriate requirements elicitation techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of systems and software development concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadline pressure.
  • Proficiency in pertinent tools and software necessary for the position.
  • Requires oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate clearly with peers and customers. Including the ability to interpret and communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and vice versa.
  • Moderate presentation and negotiation skills and the ability to lead meetings professionally and effectively.
  • Ability to act with diplomacy in resolving conflict, consulting and in acting as an agent in charge.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and willing to self-teach and take responsibility for ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and execute multiple concurrent activities.


  • Work Experience, Education, Certification/Training Required
  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Management Information Services, Computer Science or Math related field may substitute for up to 4 years of work and/or technical experience.
  • 2+ years of applicable work and/or technical experience.
  • Technical certifications are desirable and may substitute for some work and/or technical experience.
