Reporting to the Associate Director, Training, the Instructional Designer will design, develop, and maintain engaging, effective learning and development solutions for the internal and external clients of the Canadian Red Cross (CRC).
The Instructional Designer will partner with internal and external teams to assess training needs, develop instructional approaches, organize content and create a range of formats, including instructor-led, virtual, e-learning, webinars and video. They will also evaluate training effectiveness, recommend improvements, and support the implementation of best practices to optimize learning outcomes.
In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain training programs in multiple formats (in person, virtual, e-learning, webinars, video, etc.).
Implement learning solutions aligned with identified needs and performance objectives.
Ensure content is engaging, accessible, and consistent with organizational standards.
Collaborate with internal and external teams to gather content and develop training materials.
Facilitate discussions to identify training needs and objectives.
Coordinate training projects and timelines with key stakeholders, ensuring milestones are met.
Organize and adapt content from various sources to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
Apply instructional design best practices and adult-learning principles of to enhance the learner experience.
Develop innovative, interactive solutions that drive engagement and knowledge retention.
Evaluate effectiveness by gathering feedback, analyzing data and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Recommend and implement program improvements based on evaluation results.
Maintain and update learning materials to ensure accuracy, relevance and alignment with organizational (and, as applicable, partner) objectives.
What we are looking for:
Minimum 2-4 years’ experience.
University degree in instructional design, adult education, learning and development, or a related field, and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop learning content.
Excellent understanding of instructional design principles and adult-learning theories.
Fluent in French and English, spoken and written.
Ability to design and deliver engaging training sessions, in-person and online.
Proficiency with common software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, determine root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional, and organizational knowledge to develop solutions.
Communication, diplomacy and empathy skills to interpret information, provide advice, clarify client/stakeholder needs, propose solutions, and resolve problems in new or sensitive situations.
Knowledge and skills: Hands-on experience with specialized concepts.
Problem solving: Researches and innovates on standard procedures.

Working conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment.
Travel to safe locations may be required; limited exposure to adverse conditions.
Ability to meet deadlines is required.
Work involves interactions with dissatisfied clients and resolving complex client issues.
Must be available to mobilize during the deployment of Quebec’s Civil Security Emergency Response Reserve (RIUSC); may be deployed anywhere within the affected area, as required.
