Business Development Lead – U.S. Government / DOD

CPI is seeking a proven business development professional to lead strategic growth initiatives across U.S. Government and Department of Defense markets. As the primary interface with key government customers, this role is responsible for shaping opportunity pipelines, building trusted relationships, and driving capture strategies that align CPI’s capabilities with mission needs.

Reporting to the Antenna Technologies Division’s Sales & Business Development organization, the Business Development Lead will operate as a core member of the BD, Sales, and Marketing team—partnering across technical, programmatic, and operational functions to deliver results. MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN.

 

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

New Business Development (90%)

  • Serve as the lead point of contact for U.S. Government/DOD customers, fostering long-term relationships through strategic engagement and clear communication
  • Develop and execute customer-focused account plans with defined objectives and growth targets
  • Build and maintain relationships across acquisition offices, contracting teams, operational commands, and prime contractors
  • Facilitate teaming agreements and strategic partnerships to strengthen CPI’s market position
  • Identify, qualify, and mature new business opportunities; manage a robust opportunity funnel using CPI’s BD processes and CRM tools
  • Collaborate across internal teams to shape and execute winning strategies for early-stage opportunities, including RFIs, white papers, briefings, and demonstrations
  • Guide customer organizations through technology solutions, architectures, and acquisition pathways
  • Align selling activities with account management teams to ensure coordinated coverage and relationship depth
  • Monitor Government Acquisition Programs and Future Years Defense Program (FYDP) for CPI-relevant opportunities
  • Lead capture efforts for key pursuits, including strategy development, pricing, and Price-to-Win analysis

 

Reporting & Operational Tasks (10%)

  • Publish monthly reports for the Vice President of BD/Sales & Strategy
  • Maintain CRM data integrity across funnel, accounts, contacts, and opportunities
  • Submit timely trip reports and lead annual strategy sessions for U.S. Government/DOD markets
  • Host periodic opportunity reviews with internal stakeholders
  • Manage travel within budget and support planning for customer-facing engagements

 

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE:

  • U.S. Citizenship (required); visa sponsorship and permanent residence not considered
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of BD experience with U.S. Government/DOD or a career within the DOD community
  • Deep understanding of ground assets supporting SATCOM and related mission needs
  • Proven success in winning U.S. Government contracts and navigating acquisition cycles
  • Strong relationships with senior DOD leadership and industry partners
  • Experience leading large pursuits through identification, qualification, and capture phases
  • Domain expertise in space operations, satellite communications, and ground infrastructure
  • Executive presence and ability to communicate with senior stakeholders
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Willingness to travel 30%–50%
  • Ability to work a typical 40-hour work week with periodic evening and weekend work in support of customer needs

 

Preferred job requirements

  • Master’s degree in business or marketing is preferred
  • 10+ years or equivalent of business development experience
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
