Position Overview
The Educator Learning Product Designer designs and develops STEM professional learning products and services for educators and adult learners, ensuring they are accessible, inclusive, and impactful for those from low-income and historically marginalized communities. This role focuses on applying learning sciences, instructional design, and human-centered design principles to create engaging and effective professional learning experiences. The Educator Learning Product Designer collaborates closely with product owners, R&D, partnership success, and operations to align design with product strategy and user needs. This exempt role reports to the Director of R&D.
Responsibilities
Instructional and Experience Design
- Design professional learning products, resources, and experiences that empower educators to foster STEM identity development in learners.
- Apply evidence-based instructional design, adult learning theory, and usability best practices to product design.
- Create prototypes, storyboards, and user flows to communicate design concepts and guide development.
- Lead prototyping sessions with educators and learners, on and off site.
- Ensure designs meet accessibility and equity standards for diverse educator populations.
Educator-Centered Development
- Conduct educator interviews, focus groups, pilots, and surveys to inform product design.
- Translate educator and institutional needs into clear design specifications and learning objectives.
- Collaborate with instructional designers, subject matter experts, and curriculum specialists to ground solutions in sound pedagogy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product owners and partnership success to align design with product goals and timelines.
- Work with marketing and communications to create educator-facing resources that support adoption and engagement.
- Support training and onboarding materials that enhance educator experience and build capacity for product use, including leading professional learning sessions at conferences
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and analyze educator feedback and product usage data to improve design and user experience.
- Stay current on trends in educator professional learning, instructional technology, and design thinking.
- Recommend enhancements that balance educator needs, learner impact, and scalability.
Requirements and Skills
- 3–6 years of experience in instructional design, teacher professional development, learning product design, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy, curriculum design, and adult learning methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to design inclusive and accessible learning experiences.
- Familiarity with design and prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in product development.
- Strong analytical skills to translate educator feedback and usage data into design improvements.
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
Working Conditions and Schedule
- Schedule may include weekend and evening work as programmatic and organizational needs require.
- This is an on-site role with the possibility of flexibility for working some days at an alternative work location. Flexibility will vary depending on the needs of the job.
- Limited travel (domestic) may be required, up to 5%.
