About the Department

The Dougherty County Tax & Tag Department is hiring for an Appraiser for the Board of Assessors. The purpose of this position is to appraise real and/or personal property to determine a fair and equitable value for tax purposes. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Position Duties

• Inspects properties, research comparable sales and other data to establish current market value. • Adjusts property values upward to reflect improvements and downwards to reflect deterioration and entering findings into the CAMA appraisal system. • Responds to questions from property owners and the general public concerning valuations and the appraisal process. • Presents information and recommendations concerning property values to the Board of Assessors, • Enters data for tax appeals, property ownership information, updating parcels, maps, and deed reference sheets as required for new deeds and plats. • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent. • Two (2) years of experience in appraising or evaluating real estate or closely related work or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Other Qualifications

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. • Performs work outdoors in various weather conditions. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. • None Special Certifications And Licenses: • Must obtain GA DOR Appraiser I certification within twelve (12) months. • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
