- Responsible for developing conceptual, design, and as-built plans under supervision.
- Performs field measurements to assist with tasks related to plan development.
- Reviews data from multiple sources to develop accurate plans.
- Assists with development of plans/specifications, Invitation for Bids, Requests for Proposals for project advertisement.
- Assists with submittal review, inspections and project analysis during construction.
- Participates in meetings as required.
- Demonstrates knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Review and perform inspections and condition assessment of gravity sewer infrastructure (mainlines, manholes, wet wells, laterals, etc) using NASSCO industry standards.
- Review and perform hydraulic assessments of wastewater or stormwater systems.
- Assist the Civil Engineer with the design of various types of infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field of study.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field of study preferred.
Other Qualifiers:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements:
- Some experience with Microsoft Office software. Multiple software packages are used to complete the work requirements; incumbent must be comfortable mastering them in order to perform the required duties.
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
- Requires some duties to be performed outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
