A primary care physician (PCP) is a healthcare professional who specializes in providing comprehensive
medical care for patients of all ages, genders, and health conditions. The PCP role is to provide high-
quality, comprehensive, and patient-centered medical care to improve the health and well-being of their
patients.
Responsibilities:- Medical assessment and diagnosis: PCPs are responsible for assessing a patient’s medical history,
- conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests to diagnose and treat medical
- conditions.
- Treatment and management of medical conditions: PCPs are trained to treat and manage a wide range
- of medical conditions, including acute illnesses, chronic diseases and mental health issues.
- Health promotion and disease prevention: PCPs are also responsible for promoting healthy lifestyles
- and providing preventive care services, such as vaccinations, cancer screenings, and health education.
- Referrals to specialists: When necessary, PCPs may refer patients to specialists for further evaluation
- and treatment.
- Collaboration with other healthcare professionals: PCPs work closely with other healthcare
- professionals, such as nurses, pharmacists, and social workers to ensure coordinated and comprehensive
- care for patients.
- Documentation and record-keeping: PCPs are responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date
- medical records for each patient.
- Continuity of care: PCPs establish long-term relationships with their patients and provide ongoing care
- to ensure continuity of care and better health outcomes.
Education:
- Graduate of a medical school accredited by the Council on Medical Education.
- Completion of an accredited residency program.
Experience:
- Prefer 5 years experience, but not required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Has successfully completed the credentialing process at the Hospital facility.
- Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
Licenses, Certifications:
- Licensed by the New York State Department of Education.
- Certified/Eligible by Specialty Boards.
Physical Requirements:
- Consistent with that necessary to work in a variety of patient care and office settings.
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Intermittent exertion when performing treatments.
