About the Department

The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor for our Public Works Department. This position oversees, operates and maintains all wastewater lift stations and maintains wastewater treatment plants equipment, buildings and grounds.

Position Duties

Supervises and performs maintenance and repairs including preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance; including performance of regular quality tests; and keeps related logs and records.

Supervises the monitoring, maintenance, repairs and rebuilding of the Telemetry sewage control system, and stationary and movable equipment and machinery including but not limited to, aerators, compressors, treatment plant pumps, motors, controls, drives, grinders, conveyors, generators, trucks, tractors, loaders, mowers, screens, dewatering, UV, piping, heavy equipment and performance of plumbing, welding and electrical maintenance as needed; maintains equipment parts and supplies inventory and maintains related records. Manages maintenance related computer software programs. Develop spreadsheets for staff tasks.  

Performs general preparation and painting of system facilities. Troubleshoots equipment operations and electrical and control circuits. Understands and completes work orders. Assists in layout, design, and fabrication using specialized tools and equipment. Assists in the removal, repair, replacement and alignment of pumps and equipment and in the excavation and repair of underground appurtenances.

Plans, assigns and supervises the work for the maintenance of facilities and equipment at the treatment plants and lift stations; develops and trains maintenance personnel; maintains performance records; and fills in for absent employees. Assists with budget planning.

Supervises and directs maintenance of treatment plant building and grounds, and lift stations. Includes overseeing mowing and snow removal at the facilities. 

Organizes and maintains a lock out – tag out program for all maintenance personnel. 

Minimum Qualifications

Physical: Ability to lift heavy equipment weighing up to 100 pounds; work with hazardous chemicals; and withstand extreme weather conditions.

Mental:  Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; read and comprehend meters and charts and to analyze and interpret data; understand and follow detailed oral or written instructions and work with minimal supervision; and attend and understand technical courses; detect and repair problems in equipment; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, business contacts, and the general public.

Technical: Some computer skills required, including the ability to use Microsoft software applications.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years' experience in water and wastewater treatment plant operations or similar field.


Other Qualifications

Must have knowledge of methods, practices and equipment used in all sections of wastewater treatment systems including activated sludge process and solids treatment; and knowledge of materials, methods and techniques used in construction, maintenance and electrical repairs, welding and pipefitting. Missouri Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License. Missouri CDL Class A license.
