Electric Transportation (ET) Design Engineer
The Electric Transportation Design Engineer exists to support Georgia Power’s strategic objective of implementing the behind-the meter Electric Transportation Make-Ready and Community Charging Programs as approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission. This statewide position will work closely with the Electric Transportation Project Managers and the Electric Transportation Construction Coordinators to assist with electric transportation project infrastructure designs Ensure that all National Electric Code (NEC) project designs for new installations and maintenance repairs meet local code requirements and GPC specifications. This position is responsible for performing the daily tasks of engineering, designing, creating and closing JETS work orders related to infrastructure for GPC Make Ready and Community Charging stations. This position will create job packages for the safe installation and maintenance of electric transportation projects by a contractor workforce. This individual will also assist with updates for scheduling meetings to ensure all projects are meeting the desired committed service dates and ensure all field changes are updated in GIS mapping and projects are closed out correctly. This individual must also be able to use the following technical application (AutoCAD) for designing jobs. The successful candidate will work with area engineering on ET project design for project power service requirements.
Education & Job Experience
- Engineering Degree preferred or 5 years equivalent in electric utility design
- Proficient AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel experience
- Minimum 3 years of field experience in NEC system design, and installation
- Experience with NESC Utility Distribution system designs, installations, and repairs is a plus
- Working knowledge of NEC EV Charging Design, equipment, and codes
- Experience in Power Delivery applications JETS, CSS, GIS, Iclear, and DIST View is a plus
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work with Electric Transportation Project Managers to facilitate a Make Ready design that meets all safety, NEC codes, and all Southern Company specifications.
- Prepare jobs in a timely manner to satisfy customer's committed date
- Verify voltage drop, ampere rating of wire, conduit size and Over Current Protection rating
- Size Panel and secondary to accommodate charging load to meet current NEC specifications for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
- Verify job sites to determine and minimize all hazards to installation and share this information with construction team.
- Manage multiple projects with attention to job design detail
- Verify all construction charges upon completion and reconcile material and other charges as necessary
- Close jobs in a timely manner and meet monthly compliance requirements
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with internal team (ET Project Managers, ET Construction Coordinators)
- Review all Make Ready and Community Charger specs, estimates, and project installation plan proposals from contractors to ensure all requirements for the scope of work are included
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of NEC Article 230, Article 240, Article 310, and Article 625
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple teams and functions across the organization
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners
- Highly organized and detailed-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously across internal and external stakeholders
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) and experience interacting with colleagues at various levels
- Proficient in use of computer-based applications like AutoCAD
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, project management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret legal contracts, regulatory filings, and other documents
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently within project timelines and budgets.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
