About the Department
Essential Functions:
Assists laboratory personnel with routine lab tasks such as cleaning, sterilizing and storing equipment
Inventories, orders and stocks medical supplies and materials
Performs basic serological and environmental testing Assists certified Public Health personnel in the processing of specimens for microbiology, parasitology, immunology, virology, mycobacteriology, mycology, food and water testing
Analyzes bodily fluids using chemical assays
Position Duties
Examples of Work:
UNDER CLOSE SUPERVISION
Maintains sanitary conditions in the medical laboratory unit
Cleans laboratory equipment such as glassware and instruments using solvents, brushes and rags
Prepares cleaning solutions
Stores glassware in proper place after the sterilization process
Records and dates samples upon arrival
Monitor, maintains, and fills orders for supplies and specimen collection kits
Analyzes biological samples for pathogens
Records test results, maintains accurate records, and properly labels specimens and requisitions
Confers with laboratory professionals regarding testing results
Performs related work
Minimum Qualifications
Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Minimum Requirements:
Associate's degree
Biology
Chemistry
Related courses
Six months of medical laboratory experience
Other Minimums:
Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment
Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
KSA's:
Ability to type and keep records accurately
Skill in analysis and problem solving
Ability and proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer system applications
Knowledge of laboratory equipment operations and protocols
Knowledge of sterile techniques and biological waste disposal protocols
Ability and proficiency with lab equipment and lab techniques
