Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Test Technician 2 who is responsible for building, assembling structural and/or environmental test setups, apparatus tailored to meet customer-specific needs for structural qualification, proto-qualification and/or workmanship-type testing of aerospace-based composite flight hardware. Able to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of personnel; particularly with Test Engineers, other Test and/or Assembly Technicians and QA inspection to ensure test requirements are fulfilled to the customer needs and satisfaction.

Job Accountabilities:
- Able to assemble and build “one-off” type structural test setups, test fixture assemblies from blueprints, CAD layouts, digital photos and/or sketches or verbal instructions
- Able to read and comprehend written test documentation including test procedures, shop travelers, schematics, checklists, drawings and blueprint per ASME Y14.5
- Experience using standard COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) type fixturing, such as Unistrut, 80-20 extrusion to assemble test setups
- Experience using hand tools necessary to assemble bolted joints, cut and/or file metallic fixturing, light duty drilling using cordless power tools
- Able to perform basic drilling, cutting, filing, deburring of metallic fixturing
- Able to operate Milwaukee mag-drill, band saw, cordless power tools
- Able to use basic mechanical metrology tools; hand calipers, height gages, micrometers, scales to perform test setups and layouts
- Able to perform basic strain gage bonding and hand soldering; tailored to light wire gages of 18 gage down to 30-gage
- Familiar with proper and safe use of standard lifting devices; lifting straps, shackles, pulleys, eyebolts, swivel hoist rings to execute rigging necessary for crane lifts
- Able to perform basic shop math, basic arithmetic, geometry
- Plus: previous experience with standard test equipment; loadcells, strain gages, deflection transducers, wheatstone bridge type sensors applied to structural testing
- Plus: previous knowledge and/or experience with carbon fiber-reinforced composites and honeycomb panel composites testing, particularly tailored towards aerospace-type applications
- Plus: Proficiency using Vishay StrainSmart data acquisition systems, including System 5000 and 6000 or equivalent
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Job Specifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED; previous shop experience; particularly with aerospace-type composites a plus
Years’ Experience: 5 years or more of relevant experience
Skills:
- Experience in planning, scheduling, and monitoring production cycles
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to touch, hold, handle and feel
- Frequently required to stand, walk,
- Ambulate in and around test frame and scaffolding, climb up/down ladder
- Close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate noise
- Lift, carry, handle product weighing up to 50 pounds
- Periodic computer use, possibly up to four plus hours per day
- Work is performed indoors, moderate noise typical of a production environment
