About the Department

At Larimer County Department of Human Services, we strive to be responsive, provide timely resources in partnership with our community so individuals and families are healthy, supported, and safe. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, enthusiastic and inclusive staff member to join our Aging and Adult Services (AAS) Division as a Long Term Care Community Support Specialist I/II.

Community Support Specialists provide information, coordinate benefits, and determine initial and ongoing eligibility for applicants/recipients of multiple public assistance programs and services. This position provides referrals for related resources and services to collateral departments and agencies as appropriate.

This Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM hybrid position requires at least one in-office day per week.

Position Duties

What you'll be doing:

  • Gathers, assembles, and reviews information submitted by applicants and recipients regarding financial and non-financial criteria relevant to the initial and continuing eligibility for food stamps, categorical assistance, and/or medical assistance.
  • Informs applicants/recipients of the relevant requirements and benefits of programs for which they may have eligibility; assists applicants with completing forms; secures documents; notifies applicants of appeal rights and procedures in response to notices generated by the computer. 
  • Approves or denies applicants based upon review of case information in accordance with state statutes.
  • Enters and updates case/client information to maintain computer database records.
  • Maintains assigned caseload under direct supervision and case review.
  • Reviews monthly change reports for ongoing eligibility and re-determines eligibility as required by applicable programs.
  • Calculates income and resources based on program rules and regulations.
  • Rotation of phone duties.
  • Interact with community partners.

Minimum Qualifications

Community Support Specialist I - $23.7125/hr - $28.4551/hr

  • One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities within an office or customer service environment required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

Community Support Specialist II - $26.0838/hr - $31.3006/hr

  • One (1) year of experience as a Community Support Specialist I, or in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

Other Qualifications

This hybrid position requires at least one in-office day per week and reliable internet for remote work. Larimer County provides an annual stipend for remote work expenses. The position will be based at one of the following locations:

  • 1501 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO
  • 2555 Midpoint Drive, Fort Collins, CO
  • 200 Peridot Avenue, Loveland, CO

The starting salary for this position is $23.7125/hour unless candidate has held a Community Support Specialist position in another Colorado county for at least one year.  

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required pre-employment checks or testing.
