About the Department
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees the overall operations of the garage.
- Supervises staff assigned to the garage and participates in the hiring, promotion and reassignment of staff as appropriate.
- Prepares staff evaluations, responds to employee grievances or complaints, works with staff to establish goals and handles personnel time and leave paperwork.
- Implements changes in process and procedure to improve efficiency and implements new programs as needed.
- Tracks statistical data for all departmental vehicles and specialty equipment including all light and heavy equipment and provides data to management for decision-making purposes.
- Oversees the fleet maintenance and the radio maintenance units, working closely with the fleet and the radio unit supervisors to prioritize assignments and ensure that they have the resources they need to complete the assigned tasks.
- Responds to incidents and emergencies serving as essential personnel during disaster periods (such as hurricanes) to staff the radio shop 24 hours a day. Considered “Essential Personnel” during major storms and hurricanes to be on standby for all 10-100’s.
- Fleet manager is on call 24/7, for phone calls and responses to breakdowns and some accidents.
- Transports vehicles to and from dealerships and vendors as needed to assist Fleet Supervisor.
- Meets regularly with upper management to keep them informed of actions taken and to ensure that the overall needs of the Sheriff's Office and its personnel are being met.
- Researches, locates, and purchases all Sheriff Office vehicles.
- Maintains, reviews, and verifies personnel time/worksheets, ensuring that the hours are accurate; any discrepancies are noted, and the time sheet is returned to the designated member for correction or revision.
- Verifies time sheets and submits to fiscal/payroll in a timely manner.
- Establishes and maintains personnel files on all unit/department members in their area of responsibility detailing personal data (phone #, ssn #, etc.as required) and as applicable, immunization requirements, performance evaluation data, and a record of specialized tools/equipment issued, in accordance with agency policies.
- Forwards member information as appropriate to fiscal and/or other areas of the agency in a timely manner.
- Receives and processes vacation and sick time requests from designated personnel, accurately processes them in accordance with established procedures and routes them to the appropriate authority for approval in a timely manner.
- Represents their respective agency and coordinates all assigned projects with the county data processing board and/or other departments and law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
- Represents their agency's interests at all times and will maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with external agency members.
- Designs/coordinates the definition of system standards for the agency to ensure compatibility agency-wide and facilitate optimum operational effectiveness.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure compliance with all defined agency standards and immediately initiates appropriate action when deviations or potential deviations are discovered.
- Prepares for/conducts/attends and actively participates in specialized training courses/conferences/workshops as required to satisfy mandatory training requirements and/or to receive or provide necessary job specific training in specialized areas.
- Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.
- Participates in cross-training with other co-workers; assists those co-workers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.
- Reports identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.
- Timely completes all assignments, special projects, and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed, adhering to applicable agency policies.
- Adheres to leave and attendance policies, including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents, reports overtime hours worked, and timely submits timesheet, attendance, and leave requests.
- Regularly checks assigned mailbox, phone calls, PowerDMS, and email messages, responding promptly and professionally.
- Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
- Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
- Conducts themselves in a polite, helpful, courteous, ethical, and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics, and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
- Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.
- Demonstrates an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.
- Actively participate in job-specific training.
- Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education, Experience and Requirements:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Five (5) years of supervisory experience
- Seven (7) in automotive repair or related field experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft office products
- Speak and understand the English language
- Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period.
- Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible.
- Internal candidates must have completed applicable CCSO FTEP requirements.
- The following items (or authorized equivalents) may be required at various steps in the application process:

- Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
- GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education

Other Qualifications
Salary is negotiable for full-time positions prior to initial hire, if requested, based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade. Current employee salary changes are determined based on internal methodology. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.
