Description
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the main responsibility of the Maintenance Mechanic, (Forklift), will be to maintain our fleet of material handling vehicles, high reach trucks, sit down counter balanced forklifts and pallet end riders. In addition, this role will have some responsibility for general maintenance of the Northlake warehouse facility, Niles production facility, and ancillary offices.
Key Responsibilities Forklift:
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on material handling equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) at scheduled intervals as prescribed by management.
- Maintain accurate records, (parts inventory, service records), for equipment and related parts
- Replace and maintain motors, drives, and other mechanical components.
Safety and Compliance:
- Comply with OSHA safety regulations and company policies
- Perform safety inspections on equipment and elevate issues to the appropriate party
Key Responsibilities Facilities:
- Perform routine general repairs to plumbing, electrical and other assets.
- Replace and maintain motors, drives, and other mechanical components.
- Conduct meter readings, data collection record keeping
Requirements
Qualifications:
Training/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Formal training in automotive technology a plus
- Technical certification from ASE or Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) is highly desirable
- 2+ years of experience in electric forklift (sit-down, high-reach, pallet end-rider) or heavy equipment maintenance
Core Competencies
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems and hydraulics
- Ability to read schematics and technical manuals
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and hand/power tools
- Attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
- Basic computer skills, with ability to learn new business software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate complex concepts clearly
Work Environment
- Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment with below 0-degree conditions
- Ability to travel to all worksites for on-site repairs (Niles, Northlake)
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Able to safely lift and move up to 55 pounds
- Repetitive movement using keyboard
- Physical dexterity, including use of arms, legs, and body to climb, lift, squat, push, pull, bend, and twist as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery
- Able to work in elevated areas utilizing a scissor or boom lift.
