- On-site equipment inspections of NYPL’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED) inventory and first aid kits and administrative support
- Onsite EHS inspections, documentation, communication, and presentation of inspection data to the EHS Director and other team members in a timely manner
- Assist OEHS in performing annual roof and parapet site inspections
- Staff to identify potential health and safety hazards, how to report them, and how we can help them mitigate those hazards
- How the Office of Environmental Health and Safety interacts with other divisions and departments
- How to mitigate identified and potential hazards
- The unique operations and potential hazards that exist within the library system
- The ability of NYPL to provide Library Patrons and Staff a safe and healthful environment
- Understand how the library is organized and physically laid out
- Understand the specific goals and role of the Facilities and Environmental Health and Safety team in relation to other departments
- Learn how we perform inspections and assessments of Library branches and other sites
- Perform fundamental inspections and assessments independently
- Have a firm understanding of our Emergency Cardiovascular Care Program and assist in managing it
- Understand the health and safety training matrix
- Perform in-person health and safety training sessions for staff
- Perform advanced inspections and assessments independently
- Manage assigned projects independently
- Assist with the administrative functions of the AED program such as working with NYPL’s training vendor, scheduling staff training sessions and coordinating room bookings
- Perform site safety, annual roof and parapet and other required site inspections
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and other assignments as needed in support of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety
- Respond to employee Environmental Health and Safety related complaints
- Assist with investigating employee injuries and incidents
- Perform chemical Safety Data Sheet (SDS) reviews and database management
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field or 4+ years of additional related experience
- 2+ years of experience in an environmental science, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or a related field
- Strong ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Interest in occupational health and safety or other related STEM fields
