D&B is a leading provider of aggregates, asphalt and asphalt paving services in central and southern Mississippi. D&B operates four asphalt plants and two active sand and gravel plants and is a natural extension to our recently established Southeast platform, further strengthening our vertically integrated footprint. 

General Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing our Dickerson & Bowen, A Granite Company, Construction Operations (in excess of $100MM) which includes providing leadership, oversight and strategic direction to ensure the delivery of short- and long-term goals.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of strategic plan for the area and business unit that promotes growth of the business unit and its capabilities, which are consistent with the company strategic plans and goals.

  • Prepare and communicate accurate and timely financial forecasts, budgets, and projections to allow the organization to make informed decisions, allocate resources effectively and support financial stability.

  • Be a visible model and champion for our employees to conduct themselves and our business activities consistent with our Core Values and Code of Conduct; enhancing our reputation for truthfulness and fair dealing.

  • Ensure that the company’s safety programs are implemented, and that there is zero tolerance for non-compliance with minimum safety standards set by the Company leadership working to create an environment with the ultimate goal of “ZERO” accidents.

  • Promote change and the Pursuit of Excellence in the geographic area. Build a culture that strives to lead the industry in technological and process improvement.

  • Lead an engaged team including setting goals, managing performance, fostering career development and promoting a collaborative learning environment.

  • Actively participate in bid reviews for all large dollar and/or complicated bids to ensure estimate accuracy, risk and opportunity assessment, and strength and weakness analysis is consistent with overall company expectations.

  • Champion growth initiatives in the area, including pro-forma and market analysis for acquisitions. Ensure that acquisition opportunities are consistent with the strategic plan, and meet company goals.

  • Develop strategic and professional relationships; work to build alliances with politicians, customers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure the company is a well-respected leader in the local community.

  • Ensure that the company’s equipment standards and policies are being met including equipment leadership in regular inspection of equipment resources.

Education

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience in heavy civil, or highway construction and management.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience.

  • Experience leading operations, including but not limited to process improvement, change management, and strategic development

  • Preferred experience with government relations and lobbying within the construction space

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of construction operations (technology, equipment, methods) procedures and standards.

  • Knowledge of craft employee relations including the collective bargaining process as well as all employee related laws and regulations.

  • Experience in estimating of earthwork, concrete, utility, paving, structures, underground, as well as other construction operations.

  • The ability to lead expansion efforts.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills required.

  • Proficiency with all MS Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Excellent organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills essential.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively disseminate information.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. At times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.
