Who We Serve
North Bay Regional Center provides advocacy, services, support, and care coordination to children and adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties. We partner with community-based organizations and agencies to empower our clients to thrive and live as independently as possible within the geographically, culturally, and ethnically diverse communities we serve.


North Bay Regional Center serves over 12,000 people living within the geographic boundaries of Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties. North Bay Regional Center is a nonprofit private corporation that contracts with the Department of Developmental Services to coordinate services and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.  At NBRC, we’re promoting opportunities by supporting choices for people with developmental disabilities.


Note: Bilingual Spanish/English skills are required.


DEFINITION:

Under the general direction of the Director of Equity & Engagement, the Diversity and Equity Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing NBRC’s plans to promote equitable access to services and to reduce disparities in services and supports in our diverse community. This position will provide leadership to ensure that all services and supports are provided in ways that are culturally and linguistically inclusive for the communities we serve. As the central point of contact for diversity and equity efforts, the specialist will be knowledgeable about the community and able to identify emerging trends, develop relationships and collaborate with multiple entities to respond to ongoing challenges.


NATURE OF WORK:

The Diversity and Equity Specialist develops and implements strategies for advancing cultural sensitivity within the regional center including among all employees. Measures and reports progress utilizing data and other methods of feedback. Provides ongoing training and coordinates other specialized training as needed. Provides vision, leadership and coordination for the development of diversity and inclusion policy and procedures within North Bay Regional Center that ensures all clients take advantage of the services and supports available to assist in the achievement of the outcomes identified in their person-centered plans. Participates in the planning and implementation of events designed to educate and support individuals with developmental disabilities and their families that are specifically designed to increase attendance in diverse cultural and linguistic communities. Coordinates with the NBRC Outreach Specialist to plan outreach events in the general community in order to ensure that all communities are aware of and appropriately referred for services. 

Requirements

  

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Master’s or Bachelor' degree in social work, psychology, public administration, non-profit administration or related human services discipline

AND

Not less than one year experience working in programs providing services for individuals with developmental disabilities and four years working in the area of inclusion and diversity.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

· Fluency in a language in addition to English is desirable and may be required.

· Ability to provide personal automobile transportation, or access to another form of reliable transportation, during and after working hours. Provide minimum automobile liability insurance as required by California Law.

· This position will be primarily based in the office, however, remote work may also be available.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Communicate effectively in person, on the telephone and in writing.

· Organize, prioritize, and coordinate work activities.

· Read, interpret, and follow complex policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

· Perform work under stressful conditions, as required.

· Use initiative and sound, independent judgment within established guidelines.

· Maintain current workload with accurate and complete documentation.

· Attend meetings in and out of the office with punctuality.

· Adhere to a reliable work schedule, i.e., punctuality in reporting to work.

· Conduct meetings, interviews, and evaluations; interpret and document the information.

· Represent the agency’s philosophy, policies, and standard in a professional manner in the community and in the office.

· Consult with staff, vendors, and community agencies regarding state and federal programs and regulations.

· Monitor and evaluate the quality of programs which service people with developmental disabilities.

· Collect and analyze service data to find effective solutions to equity challenges.

· Develops and implements strategies for advancing cultural competency within the regional center.

· Plans outreach events in the community to ensure that all ethnic groups are aware of and appropriately referred for services.

· Measure and reports progress utilizing data and other methods of feedback.

· Other duties, as assigned.


A note regarding NBRC’s expectations regarding remote, hybrid, and home-based work…

All employment at NBRC requires face-to-face, in-person interactions with NBRC clients, family members, community, and co-workers. Candidates for employment must live within commute distance to their preferred NBRC office, as well as the geographical location of their assigned clients.  While 100% remote work is not available to NBRC employees, a hybrid work arrangement with a blend of in-office and home-based work may be available for new employees after successfully demonstrating achievement of performance expectations following at least 3 months of in-office work.

Salary Range

$67,668 – $74,616 with opportunities for 5% increases annually
